Jun 30, 2006 | Proud_Yank & DollyCali

Its time to celebrate our great nation's independence yet again. Hopefully we will all take a few moments to reflect on how far we have come since our country was founded, the freedoms we hold so dear, and how thankful we are to live in the land of the free.

What are some memorable 4th of July vacations or events that you have enjoyed?

Where are you planning on travelling, and what are you planning on doing for the 4th of July this year?

Yeah, no more cameras that need weird batteries!!!

So one of my main jobs was to drive people around from place to place, and get food/water to the different camera positions along the track. Getting around people with a cart was…um…fun. At times, I felt like I was on a scavenger hunt to find the more hidden, precarious locations I had to get to.

On the first day we got to drive all over the race track to get from place to place. That was fun. By day two it was off-limits cause the trucks with the cars started setting up. I think Qualifying started on day three and four. And then The Big Race came on Sunday. On Sunday, I was up at 4am and left for home at 8pm.

Yup!

I have a relative that works for Fox Sports, and he called me and asked if I wanted to be a runner. Apparently, all the runners they had lined up for the race canceled at the last minute, so knowing I was out of a job, he called me and I signed up.

Also, I'm a little rusty, but I do have some experience in TV production and had done some freelance work a loooonnngg time ago, so I wasn't too out of my element.

Recieved this from FReeper FRiend Bevlar.. thought it was worth sharing before I depart for a bit

THE YEAR 1906
This will boggle your mind, I know it did mine!
The year is 1906.
One hundred years ago.
What a difference a century makes!

Here are some of the US statistics for the Year 1906:

The average life expectancy in the US was 47 years.
Only 14 percent of the homes in the US had a bathtub.
Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.
A three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars.
There were only 8,000 cars in the US, and only 144 miles of paved roads.

The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.
Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, and Tennessee were each more heavily populated than California.
With a mere 1.4 million people, California was only the 21st most populous state in the Union.
The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower!
The average wage in the US was 22 cents per hour.
The average US worker made between $200 and $400 per year.

A competent accountant could expect to earn $2,000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.
More than 95 percent of all births in the US took place at home.
Ninety percent of all US doctors had no college education.
Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press and by the government as "substandard."
Sugar cost four cents a pound.

Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen.
Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.
Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo.
Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from entering into their country for any reason.

Five leading causes of death in the US were:
????????? 1. Pneumonia and influenza
????????? 2. Tuberculosis?
????? 3. Diarrhea
?????????? 4. Heart disease
?????????? 5. Stroke
The American flag had 45 stars.
Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii, and Alaska hadn't been admitted to the Union yet.
The population of Las Vegas, Nevada, was only 30 !
Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and ice tea hadn't been invented yet.

There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day.
Two out of every 10 US adults couldn't read or write.
Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school.
Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at the local corner drugstores.
Back then pharmacist said, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health."

Eighteen percent of households in the US had at least one fulsome servant or domestic help.
There were about 230 reported murders in the entire US

So, to think I forwarded this from someone else without typing it myself, and sent it to you in a matter of seconds!

Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years.

Going good.

Hubby and I are usually doing something on the weekends, but we are home tonight.

TY!

We went to a late lunch at a local restaurant and they seated us at a booth where the bench was messed up and it slid out from under me, so lunch was free...

Kids are here, but one is actually delivering dinner to his wife (left overs...) and then we will probably have some cake.

Hey there!

How are you?

I think hubby and I will help host on the last weekend of July if that is the weekend when other married couples are going to host...

Monsoon???

We have storms and warnings and such. You can hear the wind outside right now.

No plans for fireworks, but it would be nice to do something.
