NEW YORK (Reuters) - Meryl Streep, who plays a tyrannical fashion magazine editor in "The Devil Wears Prada," insists she didn't draw on Vogue editor Anna Wintour for her character -- on the contrary, she based it on men she knows.
The film is based on the best-selling book, which sent shock waves through the fashion world in 2003 with its barely disguised fictional version of the inner workings of Vogue magazine, written by former Vogue staffer Lauren Weisberger.
In the book, the editor of Runway magazine, Miranda Priestley, is portrayed as unreasonable and bullying to her staff. In the film, she also has a softer side on rare occasions and her genius and business savvy are emphasized.
Fashion circles have been abuzz before the film's June 30 release about whether Wintour, the most powerful woman in fashion, might seek revenge in the pages of Vogue against those who collaborated on the movie.

That's only fair. Michael Jackson bases his life on women he knows.
Article with 'controversial' statement masquerading as news story but, in reality, just a publicity puff piece for an upcoming movie.
Jeez, how do people get money for writing crap like this book, TDWP, or acting in crap like the movie based on it? Who is shelling out these millions? What happened to taste?
Yeppers.
Did dear Meryl spend time at the White House any time from 1993 through 2000?
I wonder what Helen Gurley Brown has to say about all this.
I'd bet the majority of super-bigwigs are like that.
"Jeez, how do people get money for writing crap like this book, TDWP, or acting in crap like the movie based on it? Who is shelling out these millions? What happened to taste?"
Well, in the case of the book, it was the people who bought it who shelled out the money. In the case of the movie, it will be those who go to see it.
Free enterprise is what it is.
Yeh, I guess you're right.
Folgers
Free enterprise causes bad taste?
No thanks.
Streep is proof positive that you can be a completely mindless, blithering idiot who cannot go a week without putting her foot in her mouth, and still be a successful actress (sorta).
Reading words that other people wrote must not be too hard. I guess that's why liberals are drawn to acting.
I like this vain, shallow world these fashion people live in. It amuses me.
I'm basing this character on men I know.
"Free enterprise causes bad taste?"
Yes, frequently. But, there it is. All sorts of things are published or produced. You may not like them. I may not like them, but others do, apparently.
A book or movie about the fashion industry? Of no interest to me. I suppose it might be to others.
Did I advocate banning things I don't like? No. I'm just expressing my astonishment that such dreck brings in millions of $$$. That's a lot of bad taste out there.
NEWS FLASH: The Fashion Industry is b*tchy as all get-out.
Who Knew.
"What happened to taste?"
