Jorge Rivera lost his life Sunday over $2, police said.
The Hollywood butcher, 34, was in a car accident and needed a tow truck, and when it came time to pay a $78 bill, Rivera only had four $20 bills. When the driver said he could not provide change, Rivera demanded it, and the 1:30 a.m. argument escalated as Rivera's nephew joined him in yelling at the driver.
The driver became nervous and drove off with Rivera's 1999 Chrysler Sebring still on the flatbed, police and family members said. Rivera jumped onto the truck cab, hanging off the passenger-side window, and the driver rolled up the window and trapped Rivera's hands there as his nephew ran behind the truck, relatives said.

That two bucks was important. You could buy a can of Coke and a Snickers bar with that!

When the tow truck arrived at the home in the 900 block of 70th Way, Rivera's mother gave the driver a $100 bill. It was too large a denomination for the driver, who took Rivera to a convenience store for change, Rode said. When the two men arrived back at the house, Rivera handed the driver $80 and the driver said he didn't have change, leading to the argument. And the tow truck couldn't be bothered to mention that he had no change while at the convenience store?
Truthfully, I'm not certain who's the bigger idiot in this story.

the tow truck couldn't be bothered to mention that he had no change while at the convenience store? He expected that there would be no complaint over 2 dollars and wanted to keep an extra 2 dollars for his work.

He expected that there would be no complaint over 2 dollars and wanted to keep an extra 2 dollars for his work. For what? Being stupid?
If I had been in an accident, was taken to get change for the tow truck, then was told he had no change and I needed the exact amount when he hadn't said that before, honestly, I would have lost my cool too. It might have only been 2 bucks but my patience would have been over. And then he drives away with my car? BOOM! And I'm a girl. (admittedly an older "girl" lol)

No convenience store clerk is going to give a guy five twenties for a hundred at any time of the day or night unless he wants to get fired.

Oops. My post may have been interpreted incorrectly. I'm not saying it didn't happen, I'm just saying it's very strange. Of course, I think a 34 year old having an 18 year old kid is strange too. . .

what I describe in post 8 is probably what the truck driver did
and what you described in post 10 is probably also what happened.
for me, I would have said, "keep the 2 dollars" but then, I'm in the top 5% of the income scale.

Yep, it's a tight race. Jumped on the truck, but then the driver trapped his hands there and kept driving.

I can't picture a convenience store taking a $100 and giving change but they did. Maybe they knew one of the men?

Not anymore. *sigh*
