http://news.yahoo.com/s/wtae/20060612/lo_wtae/9356067
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was injured in a motorcycle accident on Monday morning.
The Steelers confirmed the accident for Channel 4 Action News.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review said the accident happened on Second Avenue near the 10th Street Bridge.
A witness told Channel 4 Action News that Roethlisberger went over the handlebars, hit the windshield of another vehicle and then hit the ground.
Roethlisberger was not wearing a helmet, according to the paper.

For cryin' out loud, use some common sense before you spout off crap like that.
Obviously, Chunky Soup and a straw don't mix.
Ow!
Those who loved Ben tried to warn him to wear a helmet. I watch Trauma ER programs on TV, and they refer to people who crash on motorcycles and aren't wearing helmets as "potential organ donors". It's that dangerous.

I don't feel too well.
God, I hope he'll be OK. :^(
This is gonna cast quite a pall over the big Super Bowl Celebration Concert they're having next month.
Remember what happened to Badger Bob after the Penguins won their first Cup?
Things could be a lot worse for Ben and the Steelers. We don't know what effect this will have on him, but at least he isn't dying.
And the Steelers still have a great core of players, even if he never plays again.

I am very sick over this bad knees information.
I hate when young people do not take the advice of older wise people around them who wish to help them.
Ben is just "a wild one". I hope he doesn't lose his career over this one error. It sounds like patellas to me.
A few months later he was in a cast after breaking his leg while skiing. He was never the same pitcher again.
Nowadays he is a dentist on the South Shore of Boston. He probably makes more money doing that than he did while playing MLB, but who knows what might have been?
I guess.
My coworker was roading a motorcycle with a helmet and was hit by a car who went thru a red light. Here is a link to what he did to come back:

The photos are post accident.
We don't have enough information about that to make much of a judgment. It might just be cuts and scrapes. He did try to get to his feet after the accident but was advised to wait for medical personnel.

The doctor's link is on main page, near the top.
God, I hope he didn't tear his knees apart.
I thought I was the only Freeper not to think Coulter was totally awesome! I think she is nasty and I don't like her.

Steelers 'Encouraged By Early Reports' On Ben
(KDKA) PITTSBURGH Expressing concern for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's condition, Steelers President Art Rooney released a statement this afternoon saying the team is "encouraged by the early reports from the medical team."
The Steelers handed out the following statement to reporters today:
"On behalf of everyone within the Steelers organization, I want to express my concern for Ben Roethlisberger.
"I am sure Ben knows that we are praying for his complete recovery.
"So far we have been encouraged by the early reports from the medical team at Mercy Hospital.
"Our public relations staff will pass along any additional updates as we receive them from the hospital."
I say we send Ben a Get Well Soon cake.
I'll bet/hope you're right!
"Thats how back up quaterbacks get their start..."

Well, unfortunately backup QBs don't usually work out too well for the Steelers. In fact, the last one, Maddox, I hear is going to try his hand at professional golf. I wish him luck in his new endeavor. Maddox started out as a mediocre quarterback and went downhill from there. Well, actually, he showed some promise early on, but I don't know what happened to him.
I know it's still very early and Ben isn't out of the woods yet (no idea about internal injuries, or CAT scan results, etc.), but I have do doubt that he will have a big a work ethic as does Carson Palmer about rehab and getting back onto the field as soon as is humanly possible. I know it stinks right now, but heroes are born in adversity.
In the Maryland motorcycle license exam test, one of the questions is;
"What is the #1 cause of motorcycle accidents and fatalities?"
'Riding without a helmet' is one of the choices but *not* the correct answer.
"Automobiles pulling into the path of oncoming motorcyclists" is the correct answer.
You'd almost think people were so afraid of bikers that they take joy in hearing of their accidents.
[since they're not riders themselves, why else would they be on the thread in the first place?]
To all the bikers here;
"Cagers" don't care about you.
Your [realtively] tiny bike won't do as much damage to their cars as another car would, if they pulled out in front of -it-, instead, therefore, they will not accord you the usual respect and/or attention they'd give to a Mack semi approaching their intersection.
Learn to deal with their callousness [often bordering on disdain and loathing] towards your existence and choice of vehicle and treat every car driver as though they mean to kill you....and drive accordingly....hyper-defensively.
[God, this place is full of buzzards]
