Valentown - Is it Haunted?

Western New York Paranormal was asked to conduct a paranormal investigation at the historic ghost town of Valentown in Victo, New York. There had been local legends of ghosts inhabiting the building and the property surrounding it for decades. Workers and volunteers have reported unexplained noises, touches, and moving shadows. It's not unlike any other investigation, or so we thought.

The week the team was scheduled to go in, an episode appeared on Sci Fi's Ghost Hunters where their team did an investigation of Valentown. And so it was discovered that another team had investigated as well, so wouldn't it be interesting to correlate all the data together and see exactly what we all came up with...

Due to the controversial nature of this footage and the investigator's affiliation with another regional group - the identity of the investigator has been preserved.

WATCH THE VIDEO

The investigation began unlike any other investigation with a walkthrough of the the building using our technical people and sensitives to determine the best placement for cameras and audio for the optimum capture results. After the walk through of the huge building, it was determined that stationary IR cameras would be placed on the 3rd floor ballroom, 2nd floor grange and "electric wheel" room, and in the basement. These cameras would record unmanned all evening long and record directly down to a digital hard drive which allowed us to free up the team to spread out through this expansive buildibng.

Three teams of four peolpe worked their way through the building. With a team beginning on each floor, slowly recording evp's, taking photographs, and shooting palm videos. Impressions will be reported at a later date because a second investigation of this location in being planned due to some unexplained results that were captured.

We present these results for your consideration, and we would like your comments on them. The photograph of the dark shadow in the window is unexplained. At the time of this posting, officials at Valentown states that there is nothing drapped in that room which would cause such a reflection.

The video you are about to watch, we can't explain. We sent this video to several experts in the field, television producers, and even the camera manufacturer. Let us know your thoughts...

That's Victor NY.
It's across the road from Eastview mall.

Sent a link to relatives who know the proprietor of the museum called Valentown. It had lots of Civil War memorabilia.
Last time I was there was in the '70's.

The proprietor said it was haunted at that time. Dont know the full story; will have to ask the relatives who attended school across the street.

Valentown is a Historical Museum located in Victor, New York. It contains artifacts, articles and objects that represent the local history of the Victor and Rochester, New York area.

Valentown was originally built in 1879 as a shopping plaza and community center by Levi Valentine. Today it stands as a monument to his inspiration for building a town on top of his own family farm land.

Levi Valentine had built Valentown next to land where a railroad was supposed to arrive. Unfortunately, the company that was building the railroad ran out of funds and tracks before they could reach Valentown. Eventually Valentown was vacated and left untouched. In 1940 historian J. Sheldon Fisher turned Valentown into a Historical Museum.

Eventually Mr. Fisher united Valentown with the Victor Historical Society.  Five years prior to his passing at age 95 the Victor Historical Society bought the property and collection to ensure future generations enjoyment and education.

Not sure what to make of this...

I can tell you what NOT to make of it--a big deal! A person walks across a room and is captured by IR camera. Because there's an object between the camera and the person, gullible people are convinced that you can see an object through a person. Hmmmm... along with the fake audio effects, it's quite disappointing.

Ghost Hunters Investigate Strange happenings at Valentown Museum

Sci-Fi Channel's Ghost Hunters program featuring the World Class paranormal investigators TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society) heard about the many unexplained happenings that have been experienced by staff and other volunteers at the Valentown Museum in Victor, NY

Footsteps and voices coming from locked rooms, inside a glass display case magazine pages turning by themselves, suitcases moving underfoot, a shadowy figure passing right through a closed door begin to get a little creepy, don't you think?  The spontaneous tinkling of the old-fashioned bell hanging on the General Store entry door and the binging of its security sensor counterpart when the door never even opens is beginning to get quite annoying. Oh yeah, can't forget the white shadowy presence in a neighboring house or the man dressed in period clothing which appears in both the front and rear windows depending on whether one is coming or going, oil lanterns swaying, lights turning themselves on and off as they please. Such goings on!!

A Rolling Hills Ghost Hunting Society member actually caught one of the culprits on camera, showed it to TAPS and the Ghost Hunt began!!  First TAPS set up their sensors for a weeklong scientific investigation in November. Special cameras, microphones, and temperature sensors were placed all over Valentown Museum. Film crew and paranormal investigators swarmed over the building for hours at a time. Calling out to the spirits to show themselves,  And did they? You'll have to wait until Sci-Fi Channel's next season of Ghost Hunters begins for the answer.  We are told to expect only a 1 week notice of airing but possibly we may be on the late March or early April schedule. Watch this website and the newspapers for more information as it becomes available. www.valentown.org.

Rolling Hills Ghost Hunters also set up their monitoring equipment the same day as TAPS wrapped up their investigation. There was definitely excitement that night! Scraping sounds muted music, voices, knocking and orbs galore made them believers in the Hauntings of Valentown Hall!

They have already requested another overnight ghost hunting session and two Boy Scout Troops held separate Ghost Watch Tours with great results!!  You can become a Valentown Ghost Watcher, too. Bring your own camera and we'll show you where the apparitions hang out!! Listen to the whispers for clues..if you dare!!.

Watch for date of TAPS results
on the Sci-Fi Channel's Ghost Hunters series and more.
Valentown's Ghost Watch Tour dates will also be announced soon.
The sprits have been very friendly-so far!
Fascinating Valentown Museum opens for the regular season in May but
Ghost Watch Tours will start as soon as the chill is off
the unheated Valentown Hall.

Join us for a look at the past-Day or Night

Looks like that ghost has a limp. Wonder what the history of the inhabitants of that place is?

On another note, I couldn't imagine being completely oblivious to a ghost walking right past me!

If there were other people in the room moving around it could easly be a reflection. The relection could be in the lens or off the buildings walls.

So the first question I'd ask is, was she alone in the room when this was recorded?

As Carol (representing Valentown museum) explained, there was a public ghost hunt going on at the time, and the ‘apparition’ caught on tape with [the woman] in the picture was of the hunters she was escorting. What a waste of time.

The camera was unattended...and no, she was not alone. The woman has identified that as a living human who was with her. :-)

I agree. One of the replays seems to show the "apparition" sitting before moving. I'm skeptical as well... but these things are interesting. This would need to be tested under controlled circumstances ... nobody in the room, only cameras... different types and lots of them.

There are those who would believe everything regardless of the evidence and there are those who would deny everything regardless of the evidence.
