Time for a new FreeRepublic folding@home thread.
Our FreeRepublic team of 342 members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).
Currently, the team is in 99th place (with 985 active CPUs - 39,500 completed Work Units and nearly 7 million points).
This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 18 folding threads)

I no longer have the icon in the systray ... Rebooting doesn't help. Awhile ago I read something like this in the help forums, but dang if I can remember the answer. I'm gonna take a guess, just a guess, that you need to uninstall and then reinstall the client.

You're really moving. You're one of a handful above the top 100 I am not gaining on. I've had trouble keeping all five computers on task. And my mac is next to worthless. I'll let it finish out this one work unit (should take about a week), and then I'm retiring it from the war.
I could have a 800-1000 point day tomorrow. We'll see.

Yup, JosephW motored right on by me, along with Turbopilot...
I've made it to Pos. 182 so far, running on a 3.06Ghz Pent 4 with 2 Gigs DDR ram, and on a 1Gig Thinkpad T-41.
You'll probably catch me next... ;-)

My main machine has about the same build and speed as your Pentium 4. It has superb performance. Then I have a second Pentium 4 at 2.8 GHz that cruises nicely. I round out the stable with four relatively short-legged (at least in terms of this program) CPUs huffing and puffing along including a Celeron at 1.3 MHz, an Athlon 2100+, a Sempron 3100+, and a two year-old Mac iBook (I know nothing about its CPU). Each machine has about 1 MB of RAM. The final four together appear to have about the same output as the slower Pentium 4.
I have a hunch that if I were to study the FAQ (which I just haven't gotten around to doing), I'd discover the program is really optimized for Pentium 4 based machines.
There are probably tricks for tweaking all the machines to greater output, but I'm not that dedicated of a nerd.

Make that 1 GB of RAM on each machine.
It's been decades since I was hobbled by 1 MB of RAM.

FAHMonitor will be down for awhile tonight. The server it resides on needs maintenance.
It'll either be a twenty minute job, or an eight hour affair. There is no in-between.

T41s rule. We have s0me at w0rk and I like them f0r their light weight, small size, relative ruggedness, dual PC card sl0ts, USB 2.x, and t0uch pad functi0n.

Hey Egon, got any suprises in store for us with your shutdown ? I wish. This shutdown is not related to FAH in the slightest. Haven't had a chance to work on the monitor lately-- although I'm mulling over some ideas.
I'm hoping for no surprises during this maintenance process. With Windows, though, you never know...

Turbopilot, josephw, ltcj, JCEccles, NAPA_Laurel_MS, Easyst and usnjay are all recent folders marching right up the charts!
Also a shout out to Dave_White and jamesm113 for your first points!
Please let me know if you want on or off the ping list.
