I think this has happened due to the fact that the traditional support systems have broken down with families being more fragmented and less people attending church.

There is not the backup systems and someone has to mop up and care for those who cannot care for themselves and I think based on the above a lot of women feel that the government be it local, social services or central government have a moral responsibility to do so.

A good friend and I actually had that same discussion not too long ago. Putting 'faith' in the govt, eeek, is that ever scary!

That surprises me as once again generalisations are dangerous but I always thought of Candians as sporty outdoor types.

I would have thought regardless of political point of view if church goers they would have opposed gay marriage.

Talking of cartoon there are some great ones on the spitfire website - not sure if they would be classed as politically correct though :0)

I agree with you regarding generalizations. There are people who are fairly active, but part of it comes with being a grad student. Much of my day is in the office or lab, so....

Closer to the mountains, there are certainly more 'Mountain Betties' as I call them :-)

Convert DEAD into decimal.

D=13

13 * 163 = 53248

14 * 162 = 3584

10 * 161 = 160

13 * 160 = 13

Thus, DEAD = 57005.

Add yourself.

57006

That is why I rarely participate with the kayak & biking clubs .. I like the activities but they are very liberal.. ACLU members. Had Kerry stickers on their bikes/kayaks.

ugh.

so I kayak & bike either alone or with the couple conservatives I know

I have found both, particularly with paddlers. Sea kayakers in general are very interesting people, and tend to be fairly 'professional' (for lack of a better term. Some can be lefties, but of those who are, I haven't met too many of the real hard-core Chomsky-esque radicals. It takes a job to be able to acquire a boat afterall.

This thread is one of the more interesting/amusing/scary/totalitarian/shockingly lame ideas that I have ever heard of. Though I can't say I didn't expect it to come some day, be sure to read the BBC link.
