(snip) KENNETT SQUARE, Pa. - Barbaro is enjoying a quiet Memorial Day weekend, good news for the Kentucky Derby winner who is a week removed from surgery for a life-threatening injury.
"Barbaro is doing very well and seems perfectly content spending his holiday weekend at New Bolton Center receiving abundant carrots, apples and veterinary attention," said Corinne Sweeney, executive director at the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center.

God bless him for that!
Moroooooooooooooooon
Danke...........
No, it looked like it opens up, like hinged or something - it's fiberglass. He opened it and looked - didn't take it off. Not sure how that works, but it was "open" and then back on and closed up.
I must say..... I am a 59 year old male who was last in the presence of a horse back at summer camp around 1957.
;-)
I never got to know horses well at all .......... all I knew and felt was that they seemed to be mysterious and wonderful creatures.
Prayers for this good fellow!
Morons react to the facts like you do...in ignorance.

Thanks for the links and the pings!
Just admit it........... you stepped in it.
This thread IS about the goodness and well-being of this horse.
It's cool. We're all a little off base at times.
Take care and be well.

Barbaro bump
bts, would you add me to your pinglist about Barbaro please (and thanks!)
rte66,
Thanks for finding and posting the stories about Barbaro. It's always good to have up to the minute information about what's happening with this beautiful horse.
You're welcome. He's an outstanding specimen and I'm hoping he beats the odds on this.
"Lou Raffetto, the president and chief executive officer of the Maryland Jockey Club, which runs Pimlico, on Tuesday said a review of stewards' patrol films and corresponding still photos has led him to theorize that inadvertent contact between Brother Derek's right front leg and Barbaro's right rear leg contributed to Barbaro taking an awkward step and suffering the fracture.
"It happens just before the sixteenth pole," Raffetto said. "Barbaro drifts out just as Brother Derek is closing the margin. Brother Derek extends his right front and it appears to hit Barbaro's right hind. Barbaro's head comes up.
"It's not 100 percent conclusive. But it looks like it was an unfortunate accident. It was nobody's fault."
Every day that goes by now without complications is a step in the right direction, and hopeful.
Now everybody needs to pray for the bones to knit quickly and well. The blood supply seems to be good - but horses' legs are always a dicey proposition.
This horse's level head has gotten him through so far, now his health and constitution has to do the rest. And hopefully he will adapt to hobbling on the fused fetlock joint without too much stress . . . but that's far in the future right now.
Interesting that the racetrack officials think they see contact between Barbaro and Brother Derek. It's certainly as good an explanation as any - maybe they can computer enhance the film and get a better look.
I also love that movie, have it on tape but cannot watch the very beginning. You know what I mean.
I play the dance with Redford and Kristin Scott Thomas sometimes by itself. It's so fabulous and the song A Soft Place To Fall is a favorite of mine. Plus, I LOVE Montana, the scenery is fabulous!
Annie: "I've heard you help people with horse problems."
Tom Booker: "Truth is, I help horses with people problems."
