"X Men 3: The Last Stand" took in almost $45 million on Friday and landed in the history books. It is now the second highest opener of all time, right behind "Star Wars: Attack of the Sith."
Insiders are predicting that the Brett Ratner directed third episode in the X Men trilogy could do as much as $150 million over the four day Memorial Day weekend. Word of mouth and "tracking" are so strong that "X Men 3," with no real rivals, should shatter all kinds of records by time the numbers are in officially on Tuesday.
Meantime, audiences may be cooling off to normal levels for "The Da Vinci Code." After a monster first weekend, Friday night's numbers--a respectable $10.2 million--were off by two thirds from a week ago when the movie opened. "Da Vinci" could still have a very good weekend, and luckily it made its money back with that strong start.

Anyway, the really big news is that after a monster start, "The DaVinci Code" appears to be tanking. We won't know for sure until next weekend but a 67 percent drop is always a good indication. So much for Christian baiting for fun and profit.
My son was ambivalent about it, but I notice he's already seen it twice. And spent time telling me the plot.
It has Wolverine in it. I'll be there.
Attack of the Sith?
I saw three movies so far this weekend. Xmen III, DaVinci Code, and then "Over the HEdge". DaVinci wasn't THAT bad, but it was at least 30 minutes too long, and some of it was just plain goofy, I wonder if the book is that goofy. Xmen III is not as bad as the reviews, Id give it a strong 2.5 or a 3 out of 5. Over the Hedge I ended up enjoying. 3 out of 5 from me.
It was the sequel to Revenge of the Clones.
I'm an old sixties comic guy. I never like the remakes, especially when the characters don't physically resemble the comics and villains.
Seems like "the phenomenon" is over.
Good riddance.
I was talking with my Sister in Law and her fiancee today, they LOVED it.
I can't wait to see it. Maybe this Friday...
Over the Hedge is great. (IMHO).
X-Men3 plotline = gun control + abortion + stem cells.
I didn't like Da Vinci in Titanic and the Gangs of New York either.
;-)
This is the first movie produced by Hugh Jackman's production company. Hugh Jackman is listed as starring in a spin off Wolverine movie, also produced by his new production company. I have a feeling a deal was struck, so you probably have at least one more Hugh Jackman/Wolverine movie to enjoy.
I'm looking forward to Prestige, where Jackaman plays one of a pair of feuding stage magicians from around 100 years ago. The novel was a big success, I love the subjet matter and they've cast David Bowie as Nokola Tesla. Sounds like my kind of movie!
With this X Men movie two of my three kids who have already seen it were only semi impressed, but they both had tons of details on the movie. It was mostly what could have been better, but they were clearly engaged and enjoyed it. I mostly want to see it for Kelsey Grammer as Beast. The clips I've seen look great.
If you don't watch the eight seconds that come after the ending credits you miss much of the movies storyline.
