You get lunch?

Better grab a bite quick before the kitties eat it all.

Quit whining.

I work 8 straight hours on my shift. Lunch or dinner is eaten at my work station. The only 'breaks' I get are when I go to the bathroom to relieve myself. Even then I'm carrying a portable radio so I don't miss any calls.

If you didn't negotiate this before you took the job, you get no sympathy from me.

I don't even remember the last time I had a lunch hour. Where I worked, we ate at our desk taking about 15 minutes just to eat. If work needed to be done, so be it.

At least you probably get to eat decent food at lunch.

I live on a compound and only get one choice. The chow hall. For every meal. Every day. Day in and day out.

And it sucks.

If it weren't for the soft ice cream machine, it would be a total disaster.

That reminds me...it's time for lunch now. (Groan!)

I've been in the workforce for almost a decade and I'm still waiting for my first lunch hour. :)

It usually takes at least 30 minutes for my driver to get me to the restaurant, depending on what my assistant chose for the day.

I guess I think more in terms of morning, afternoon and evening.

Although I don't choose my own wines, I understand the time of day is important to the staff.

Your vanity post may seem silly to some people but this subject has really irked me for years.

Yes, I hate that half hour. I've never been in a position to negotiate lunch or no lunch with an employer. Even with "flex time" you have to factor in lunch. In all my working life I have rarely ever, ever taken a half hour lunch. It would have been some rare occasion. I'm not going to go and just sit somewhere for a half hour.

I never understood this famous "9-5" mantra. That would be a no lunch 8 hour day which would be fine with me but it is not very common.

You could get a union and then your life would become really miserable as you reflect on the money you pay in dues going the Hillary Clinton campaign.

What really sucks about the half-hour lunch is trying to get that third martini squeezed in.

I work four 10 hour shifts. We get no breaks or a break for lunch. But our management lets someone leave and get lunch for others. Our jobs requires us to monitor every flight in the air, so they cant schedule breaks. We watch eachothers flights while they go and get food for us. I would rather have no break in exchange for three days off instead of two..

We have the option of taking our two 15-minute breaks with our 1/2 hour luch (officially). Unofficially, we can take as long as we need/want for lunch as long as all but 1/2 hour of it is off the clock.

You guys need to get better jobs.

From all the replies to this post I can conclude that these jobs with no lunch breaks or lunch breaks that employers won't pay for are jobs that real Americans don't want.

You need jobs like mine where you take lunch when you get hungry, sometimes eating and Freeping, other times going out and sampling the local cuisine and, once in a while, if the weather is particularly nice and the fish are biting, calling it a day sometime around the noon hour and having lunch as I steer my boat towards one of my favorite fishing spots.

Leave those sucky jobs with the limited lunch options to the stinking border jumpers!

BTW, I get paid a lot of money, too.

Viva La Capitalism!

Clockwatchers aren't executive material.

Remember that when you're running out the door at 4:29pm.

Don't you hate working 8-4:30 or 7:30-4 and crap?

Luxury.

Why, in the So Cal borax mine I work in, it's 18 hour shifts with no lunch. During our only 5 minute break, we're made to lay on a bed of broken glass, although we are given a moldy piece of a Starbuck's scone to chew on.

Be happy with your cushy job and 30 minute lunch.

My erstwhile employment started out with a "we're very laid-back" philosophy. Slowly, over time, that changed. First they took away our right to leave the office for lunch. We'll provide it for you, but you have to stay in the building. Then they began extending work hours. Then they began to insist that all employees play basketball together after work, and hanging out during weekends. It was like a cult "WE are your friends now." Given that the job wasn't all the great from the get-go, I quit.
