Just for Fun: What is Your Favorite Love Song? (Shameless Vanity)

Posted on 05/23/2006 6:10:36 PM PDT by HungarianGypsy

Thought it might be fun to get a little off the serious news stories and ask about this. You know the songs. The ones that many women love and guys just roll their eyes and pretend to like so they can make out. So, what are you favorites?

One that I liked a lot starts out:

"Here we are
Out of cigarettes
Holding hands and yawning
Look how late it gets
Two sleepy people by dawn's early light
And too much in love to say goodnight."

"Speaking of Stardust, check out Hoagy Carmichael's "Skylark"

Ya know, I was just thinking of him when I read your reply and remembered one of my all time favorites:

"Huggin' and a'chalkin."

Misty sung by Johnny Mathis
Beyond the Sea by Bobby Darrin
Our Love Is Here to Stay by Frank Sinatra or Andy Williams
Annie's Song by John Denver

Any of these songs make me weak in the knees!

Sleepwalk by Santo and Johnny.

One of the best that I can remember for polishing up the belt buckle. Was a one hit wonder played on some wierd musical instrument. The song had no words but was the best slow dance song ever in my opinion.

"Dulcinea" from Man of La Mancha.

The lyrics give me chills.

God Only Knows - The Beach Boys
Someone to Watch Over Me - Gershwin
Rain - Frank Sinatra (obscure '50's LP cut that absolutely SMOKES!)
I've Been Loving You Too Long - Otis Redding
He Stopped Loving Her Today - George Jones
I Want You Around - Ramones

And for a purely contrarian view:
I Hate You - The Monks

I was thinking of Sandwich of Love by the Mentors.

ROTFLMAO! First time I've ever seen the Mentors on a FR thread. I love this place!

Fur Elise would be another good choice.

I like this suggestion much better than Ode to Joy (as regards love songs, not as music where they are apples and oranges to my mind).

Two from Lynyrd Skynyrd - "I Need You" from the Second Helping album, and "I Never Dreamed" from the Street Survivors album.

"It seems to me I took you love for granted
"It seems to me that this time I was wrong
"Oh Lord, how I feel so lonely
"I say woman, won't you come back home?"

And one from Charlie Daniels - "Behind Your Eyes" from the Million Mile Reflections album.

"And I try to run away
"But I know it's only trying
"When everything I could ever want
"Is there behind your eyes
"Behind your eyes."

On top of old smokey
All covered with snow
I lost my true lover
By courting so slow
For courtings a pleasure
And parting is grief
And a false-hearted lover
Is worse than a thief

On top of old smokey
All covered with snow
I lost my true lover
By courting so slow
