A Dixie Chick news story ping.
The Chicks' new album goes on sale this week. They've been on 60 Minutes and a number of the morning talk shows - and are still trying to play the victim.
I still think they will have decent sales initially, however nowhere near their previous 3 studio albums. Be prepared for a barrage of condemnations from the press for not being ready to make nice with the Chicks.
If anyone still watches CMT, could you let me know if they are pumping up the Chicks' new album?
Don't know and don't care.
Funny thing is, country music fans will forgive just about anything if you come back repentant. The Grande Ole Opry threw Hank Williams off because he frequently missed shows, and sometimes showed up too drunk to play, but they'd have taken him back in a minute if he'd showed up sober. He never did, of course. Williams had talent, though. The Chicks were successful because they're moderately good looking on stage and had good production. Their name also connotated a redneck anti-feminism. Thus, Maines alienated her core fans, and thinks others are ready to buy her work.
Most big time music today is based on image, rather than talent. Loretta Lynn probably couldn't get a contract if she started singing today, and the window is very small for our increasingly young-obsessed culture. I mean, how many movies has Alicia Silverstone made since she turned eighteen? Kirsten Dunst will probably find that Spider-man 2 is her last hurrah, and I'd be surprised if Cameron Diaz has many more hit movies. The Chicks made it off their looks, as their music was totally fabricated anonymous sounds okay in the background work. They won't recapture their star. Time for them to go hang out with Markie Post and Billy Ray Cyrus.
I think I remember they were one of the stories in the last weeks on 60 minutes. I rolled past the channel rolling my eyes...
I used to really like 60 minutes in the 70s but anymore it seems to be a liberal mouthpiece for any nutjob wanting to bash anything I believe in.
Imagine if we had the same access to National TV time? sheesh.
"I still think they will have decent sales initially..."
======
Maybe so, or maybe it will appear so, at least. But, it won't be because this ole gal spent a penny on their product, or even listened on t.v. or radio, if I can get to the control quick enough to silence them.
I think the Chicks are dead in the water.
The minute CMT plays the chicks, they lose me.
I think CMT has advertised their album. I know about a month ago if you went to cmt.com a HUGE ad for their album was the first thing you saw. Made me sick.
Its viacom, what do you think? LOL~

Pat Boone Says Maines' public disrespect helps bin Laden, president of Iran
Music legend Pat Boone is ripping into the Dixie Chicks for withdrawing their apology for a previous attack on President Bush. "I have four daughters, and I taught them to respect their elders, even if they weren't president of the United States," Boone told Fox News host Neil Cavuto today. "I think it's outrageous for any of these performers to be bashing our president the way they are."
