;)
That was pretty bad. For really bad beer go to Greece.
Hey now, in my wild, carefree college days I loved the stuff! Blatz was cheap and good! And since nobody else drank it, I didn't have a problem with people "borrowing" my beer.
Not to totally hijack the topic, but there is something I wanted to add.
While looking for beer last weekend at a local convenience store, I noticed they were selling a new brand of wine called FAT BASTARD.
It just seemed to amuse me at the time. But then, I don't get out much, so lots of things amuse me.
Has anyone ever tasted Arrogant Bastard Ale? It is actually pretty good.
That would be Carling Black Label. Yeah, I remember it, along with Piels, Blatz, Schmidts, Dixie etc, ect.. but at that time I wouldn't have known a good beer from a bad beer.
My neighbor drinks Stoney's. I remember when we lived in Cleveland about 17 years ago, my grandparents buying canned beer with a European bubba and a broom. Can't remember the name of it, though.
Heck, I don't drink beer but I remember this.
I'm surprised after over 80 entries to be the first to mention it.
Spud Beer
[Open on interior of hospital room. A patient is led into the room by nurses]
Announcer: You've just had a heavy session of electroshock therapy, and you're more relaxed than you've been in weeks. [Patient climbs into bed] All those childhood traumas magically wiped away, along with most of your personality. Now is the time, time for Spud. [Nurse wheels in bucket with cans of Spud Beer]
Singers: Ohhhhh, Spud!
Announcer: Filled with the full, rich flavor of potatoes. [Patients begin smiling] Spud, the beer brewed for people who can't taste the difference.
[Patients and nurses open cans of Spud]
Singers:
"When you say Spud, just put your mind on hold.
Do what you're told, and open a cold,
Refreshing Spud. Just watch your life go by.
No need to try. When you've got Spud." Ohhhhh Spud!"
Announcer: Spud, the beer that made Boise famous.
I know the homebrewers probably got into the hobby after extensive experimentation with one or more of these
Not mentioned is "Old Topper"
Which when warm, left in a friends garage for pick up, is nectar of the gods to a 16 yr old.
Carling Black Label is on that list too. We considered Genny Cream Ale an upgrade from those prizes
My 2 favorites that I haven't seen in years were Ballentine and Brew102. Ohhhh they were bad.
I'm surprised Schaefer's isn't in the list. The only time I drank it was when I was drunk, and I could STILL tell how bad it tasted.
I'm glad to see Milwaukee's Best in there. That beer tasted like it was burnt.
You sure it wasn't Carling Black Label? It was really nasty!
Good times, good times
Oh Man, the mention of Lucky Lager, or Lucky 50 (their light beer) sure brings back some memories! We could only get "Luck Dog" in 12 packs (which were small, rigid boxes) of 11-ounce bottles with the riddle or puzzle under the cap.
>>>You know the beer I miss the most? Strohs.
You don't have to miss it. They merely assume you won't notice any difference.
A letter from Pabst Brewing Company
"Before Stroh's beer became part of the Pabst family, Stroh's beer was brewed at five or six of the Stroh breweries around the country. But it was no longer brewed in Detroit after the original Stroh brewery was shut down due to age and inefficiency. It was about this time (and even before) that most breweries included to the use of corn adjunct or corn syrup in their formulas. I do not know exactly at what point the Stroh's Brewery made the switch, but by the time the Pabst Brewing Company bought the Stroh's label (1999), Stroh beer had already been brewed with corn adjunct for many years.
But Stroh did continue to "fire brew" its name brand at great expense. Several gas-fired kettles were installed in each of the Stroh breweries to continue the tradition, and indeed the marketing image, of fired-brewed beer.
When the Pabst Brewing Company bought the Stroh labels, a decision had to be made whether to endure the the extra cost necessary to continue fire-brewing Stroh. In order to evaluate the effect of fire-brewing on the taste of the beer, special blind taste sessions were conducted with trained panelists to see if a difference could be perceived by anyone.
The result of these sessions revealed that less than half of the panelist could detect a difference. Statistically, that means that any one, whether trained or not, could simply toss a coin to answer the question. Since all Stroh breweries were shut down except one, and since almost all production was contracted out to the Miller Brewing Company, the decision was made that the extra expense of installing gas-fired kettles at all the Miller plants simply was not justifiable. An old marketing postion long enjoyed by Stroh alone was abandoned in favor of being able to offer the brand to the public at reduced cost.
The move was difficult choice to make, but has turned out to be the right choice. The Stroh brand is now enjoyed by both old and new customers alike".
"Papst owns Stroh's and a number of other former "big name" regional and national beers"
Pabst owns the labels but the beers are contract-brewed by Miller.
The question is, does it burn like kerosene? If so, the airlines would like to know more about it.
Yes...but you can get a 12 pack of Milwaukees Best here for $4.59.
