DURHAM, N.C.—One of three Duke University lacrosse players charged with rape wants the case resolved in time for the next school year, his lawyer said in court yesterday. But the judge warned he will not fast-track the proceedings.

The case "is not going to jump ahead of the line and be handled any differently," Superior Court Judge Ronald L. Stephens said at a hearing for sophomore Reade Seligmann.

After the brief hearing, District Attorney Mike Nifong said he does not expect any trial to begin before next year.

I stayed up for Hannity, which started at 2 am, just to see this dude. OMG. If this isn't a circus. What was funny is when they kept calling it "she."

From CourtTV:

Newsweek's Susannah Meadows and North Carolina attorney, Woody Webb, look at the issues as a judge holds a preliminary hearing:

Woody Webb: No, but the juries tend to be predominantly African-American. What is dangerous - and I've talked to other attorneys - is what will happen in the community if the trial takes place here, and the jury comes back with a not guilty verdict. I can't impress upon you too strongly how rife with tension, mostly racial, this community is, because of this case.

Interesting...free?

The accuser has had 10 addresses in Durham, according to ussearch. I wonder if she ever lived in one of those places.

Was it born a he or a she? I thought the voice was awfully deep. So, Crystal's cousin is a drag queen who works at a strip club? Doing what? Hair styling for the dancers?

I thought it was comical when it said it hadn't been following Reade's alibi information. Yeah, right.

Good. The defense can use that insider legal opinion in its motion for change of venue. Maybe they should call him to testify, lol!

Two comments: 1.) I wonder about someone named "Woody"... and
2.) The reason juries in Durham tend to be predominantly African-American is because of the same reason many whites are omitted. It is difficult to get a "jury of one's peers" in a community like Durham.

It seems clear now the whole case will hinge on the credibility of the accuser.

It has to. Her word is the only "evidence" that a rape even took place. If you can't believe her, then there was no crime.

I have a feeling what he means by "environmentalist." Oh well, someone has to do it, but college? I think he "went," there, but never attended!

(woody) "I can't impress upon you too strongly how rife with tension, mostly racial, this community is, because of this case"

No, Sir.....the status quo of the "case" is derived from pre-existing racial aspirations and opportunism of sufficient members of the community. This is a matter of the chicken and the egg that is easy to distinguish, IMO, and mr wiidy has chosen to express it such that it serves those opportunists.

Don't worry about the rehabilitation.

You can lead a whore to culture but you can't make her think.

"The reason juries in Durham tend to be predominantly African-American"

I don't know about that but I do know that both prosecutors and defense attorneys don't want people who have much knowledge.

During jury selection they're always asking questions about your area of expertise. If the trial is about the internet, for example, then the last people who would be selected for jury duty would be people who know anything about the internet.
