Runaway camel manages to reach Trans-Israel Highway, where he began to go wild and interfere with traffic
A camel breached the Trans-Israel Highway Wednesday and interfered with traffic on the road. Police say he also attacked a traffic warden in the region. The camel began to behave wildly and endanger vehicles.
Motorists in the area noticed a camel walking on the side of the road heading east. Some of them reported the disturbance to the National Traffic Police, which dispatched units to try and apprehend the camel, but it managed to succeed in escaping and getting on the Trans-Israel highway.
Community Policeman Tzuri Rokach told Ynet: "The camel began going wild on the Trans-Israel highway and endangering drivers on the road. A traffic warden in the area tried to catch him and distance him, but the camel tried to bite his hand. The warden fell, was injured, and received medical treatment in the area."
Rokach said four police cars reached the scene and managed to push the camel to the side of the road. "There weren't traffic jams in the area, but a number of curious drivers slowed down when they saw a camel surrounded by police officers on the margin of the road."
