Brown has simply taken a page from the playbooks of Ludlum, LeCarre, Clancy, Clavell and others by couching a well spun yarn in historical fact. Brown has taken liberties with the whole basis of Christianity, and is being promoted as a film that will show you 'everything your father taught you about Christianity is wrong'. Brown has not clarified where his alleged facts stops and his fiction begins. If Brown is willing to admit there is nothing to the theory that Christ and Mary had a child and other such blasphemous claims, I might give him a pass. But the promotion of the book/movie indicate otherwise.

I have posted this many times before - look at the artwork. For example: If you did not know that the convention in Leonardo's time was to depict St. John as looking rather feminine, you would think that "The Last Supper" showed a woman sitting next to Jesus.
Again: the DESCRIPTION is accurate, the INTERPRETATION is fiction.

I am so totally not concerned about this ridiculous movie that I cannot understand all the hoopla. I think more than anything it is the studio trying to create The Passion of the Christ box office effect. This movie will change few minds about anything. Jesus has always had and always will have his enemies. Yawn... The only interesting part is the sad spectacle of spiritually blind people marching off to their own doom in grand triumph. Sort of like ants at a picnic running off with a crumb just before they get squashed underfoot, completely unaware of their own insignificance.

And lest we forget...they're both still fiction!Everyone I know acknowledges that Harry Potter is fiction. There are actual nutjobs out there who think the DaVinci Code conspiracy theory is real.

Would you enjoy seeing a movie depict your mother as a prostitute and that she was not who she appeared to be to you? Would you enjoy a movie that cast your father as a lying cheat, criminal when you knew he worked hard every day of his life trying to feed you and the family?
Well - that is what it would be like for Christians following Christ. There would be no enjoyment in viewing blasphemous "stories of fiction". But, I wonder why a writer would chose to dishonor Jesus? And, I don't think I want to take his side - fiction or not. Not me. Would it please Jesus? We go to church to worship Him and then attend a movie that seeks to undercut the Christian faith? Something is wrong with that and our faith IMO.

Remember a couple of months ago when the Muslims were flipping out over a cartoon depiction of Mohammed? Well now it's our turn. But don't let it get you so riled up.
It's a fictional story. It doesn't change the truth, and it shouldn't shake up your faith. The truth always stands up on it's own.
Lots of historical fiction takes a document or an event and "fills in" the gaps. That doesn't make it a historical account, it's just fiction.

The geographies are simple, the secret societies (Opus Dei, Masons, Knights Templar, etcOpus Dei isn't a secret society though. There are Opus Dei colleges in several locations. They just opened a new one in NYC, as I recall.
The idea that Christ married and had children is preposterous and is not supported by scripture.
Yep. Sad thing is, some have bought into it being 'historical but suppressed fact'.

I read the book. I encouraged my teenage daughter to read the book. Then we had a discussion. I pointed her to the opposing views that I had found on the internet.
I did this not as a religious lesson, but as a lesson in determining for oneself what was the truth. The masses are being driven by those who wish to create history in their own view, rather than by the view of objectivity.
In the end, she agrees with me: His other books are better, this one was OK. The movie might be OK, but the story is just a story. I am sure the scenery of the movie will drive a "Kramer tour" fade in Europe this summer and next.

But don't let it get you so riled up.That comparison is so stupid, since you know the Christians aren't going to riot over the Da Vinci Code. On the contrary, they're using completely legal means to get their viewpoint out.

Now, THAT is an oft-repeated lie. Brown claimed that the art and architecture are as described and the 'secret' rituals are or were done as described, but that the story is pure fiction. And what about the film promotions saying, 'everything your father taught you about Christianity is wrong'? Brown has not done enough to clarify where his facts stop and where his fiction begins. Brown has resurrected the lies of Holy Blood, Holy Grail. That book has been totally debunked, but Brown is relying on those forged documents and debunked conspiracy theory and presenting them seemingly as factual.

Hope you have your asbestos underwear on, you are going to need it!
I happen to agree with your point - It does not matter and is totally irrelevant to Christianity's core beliefs. However, lots of people (including FReepers) seem to be getting their knickers in a real knot about this topic.

The fact is - that many will believe the fiction or it will put doubt in their heart.
We live in an ignorant society. Why would Christians choose to participate in something that will work against what the Lord wants?
Another thing - the Jews never accepted that Jesus was the Savior. Therefore, they are not dishonoring their Savior as they do not accept He is the Savior. But I do and it is just another slam against my Savior.
Again, why in the world would I want to pay money to see it? If I go to church to worship Jesus - why would I go to a movie that dishonors Him?

DVC is fiction trying to pass as fiction.
Not according to Dan Brown. It's "just fiction" only when he's being attacked by rightfully angry Christians. It's "fact" when he's speaking to a friendly audience.

I would see the movie because I know the truth and am comfortable with my love of them. Sure, I'd get angry, but it is fiction ('specially so if you ever met my folks).
And those who aren't comfortable with the DaVinci Code, like yourself, wouldn't read it or see it. Does that mean everybody must conform to YOUR opinion?

Film promotions? You mean the ads that state the premise of the story, which is based on a novel?
Did you believe, "27,000 nuclear warheads. One is missing."?

Rioting wasn't the point, the point was that Muslims didn't care for the inaccurate depiction of Mohammed, and Christians don't care for an inaccurate depiction of Jesus.

Did I say everyone must conform to my opinion?
Do you mean that since my opinion differs from your promotion of the movie, that I should keep my opinion quiet?
Guess it means that none should speak up for Jesus, but, instead, join the mob paying to see a movie saying the Bible lied or that the Bible left out details.
Why? Why is it necessary to go see this dumb movie? To make sure it creates as much havoc on Christianity as possible so you can snicker at how silly we are? To make the writer even more wealthy?
Look at how he is gaining his money. Purely from mocking Jesus. Maybe many others can do the same and reap even more money. And, guess I should be sophisticated enough to pay to see those too. What a horrible waste of my funds.
