For those who think that sports broadcasts might offer a respite from liberal media spin . . . think again. At least when it comes to ESPN [an arm of ABC] the same ESPN that fired Rush Limbaugh for expressing his views on QB Donovan McNabb.
This time, ESPN let its liberal slip show in the matter of the Duke rape allegations. Yesterday, in the wake of his indictment, former lacrosse captain David Evans appeared before the press to assert his absolute innocence and those of his two co-defendants.
To comment on Evans' press appearance, ESPN, during the overnight edition of Sports Center, brought in its "legal analyst," a former Philly prosecutor by the name of Deborah Robinson. Commenting on Evans' press appearance, Robinson, with ill-concealed anger, claimed:
"It has no significance for the trial whatsoever. It's significant because it's unprecedented. I've never seen a defendant have a press conference before the trial even begins. . . It's tainting potential jurors, and that's what I think is the most significant thing about this press conference. The defense is trying to paint a picture for those jurors who will eventually hear the case about the defendant before the case even begins."
So let's get this straight. According to ESPN's employee, it is wrong for someone who passionately believes he has been wrongly accused of a heinous crime to publicly assert his innocence. Falsely accused defendants should simply sit in silence and take it.
Odd - I don't recall Robinson similarly condemning DA-cum-candidate Mike Nifong for his 70 press interviews and his public assertion that he believes the accuser - which of course amounts to accusing the defendant's of the crime. Guess outrage only works one way for ESPN's "legal analyst."
Don't know who Joey Porter is, but if he fits the profile above, yes.
ESPN folks know all about this stuff ~ no doubt it provides them with supplemental income. Guy ought to be mad to see the Captain of the team fighting back against this crowd. Most players don't have the slightest idea what happened to them when they get beat up, but this young fellow has the money to bust this wide open.
This ESPN outburst should not be forgotten.
>>>I've never seen a defendant have a press conference before the trial even begins. . . It's tainting potential jurors, and that's what I think is the most significant thing about this press conference. The accuser and the prosecutor, however, were not trying to taint potential jurors with their continuous, outrageous lies. [/sarcasm]
How many times have you see attorney's for the accused stand in front of the cameras with the accused in the background, proclaiming his client's innocence? Michael Jackson and Scott Peterson come to mind immediately. I'm sure there are more than a few others all over the country who do exactly the same thing unless a gag order is imposed by the court.
Where did they find this idiot? They must have searched pretty hard to find someone who has never owned a television or a radio or a newspaper.
Has ESPN's "legal analyst", in her vast experience, ever heard of "innocent until proven guilty"?
Very well said.
I figured the same thing.
It's sadly amusing to see the liberals day after day striving to defend the accuser as the Nifong's case crumbles. Their efforts are half-hearted at best lately.
Her race probably doesn't matter on this one. The Feminazis were/are as up in arms about this travesty of a case, as the race hustlers in the black community.
She's just ticked because the kid hit it out of the park. He's either innocent or he's the next Lawrence Oliver.
If you want to contact ESPN:

Asserting your innocence is an unprecidented attempt to sway the jury. I have now heard everything.
Everyone's getting in on the act ping.
True. I can think offhand of no such recent event.
Oh crap. Dang you, Kobe.
I generally don't either, but I've been following this one fairly closely for a few weeks now, and, without getting into the sordid details, your impression is correct, and these young men are getting railroaded.
Ah, according to another poster, we have a double-whammy on that.
Some analyst!
I'll just have to skip ESPN in the future.
