May 13, 2006 The second round of DNA test results in the Duke University rape investigation show "no conclusive match'' to any lacrosse players, defense attorneys said, but a vaginal swab of the alleged rape victim produced DNA from a "single male source'' a man not on the lacrosse team who did not attend a March 13 party that was the site of the alleged rape.
Joe Cheshire, a defense attorney for Duke University lacrosse players at the center of a rape investigation, said the latest tests show no conclusive match to any of the lacrosse players' DNA. (ABC News
Defense attorney Joe Chesire declined to identify the mystery man or his connection to the alleged victim, but ABC News' Law and Justice Unit has learned that the unnamed source of the DNA is the alleged victim's "boyfriend," according to her mother.
ABC News is withholding the name of the man because he is apparently not a target of the investigation. Records indicate that Durham, N.C., police gave the "boyfriend'' a cheek swab to collect DNA on May 3, ABC News' Law and Justice Unit has learned exclusively.
It is unclear if or how the first DNA tests missed what appears to be the only foreign genetic material found on the alleged victim's body, defense attorneys said. Two Duke lacrosse players were indicted more than two weeks before the cheek swab was taken from the "boyfriend."
It is also unclear whether the alleged victim had sex with the "boyfriend" the night she claims to have been raped by three Duke lacrosse players. DNA experts tell ABC News that genetic traces of semen can remain in the body up to six days after intercouse.

Lol! Yeah, I thought of that too after I posted. Good ol' Jesse Jackass is paying the little ho's tuition. Did it never occur to the idiot that she may have lied? Oh no, she's black.....she wouldn't lie about rape! Whitey is evil and oppressive. Racist!
Oh, no. That would be low life scumbag stripper/hooker who has changed her story multiple times, accused three other men of gang raping her (3 years after said rape occurred) and accused her ex-husband of trying to kill her but declining to provide any detail that permitted cops to go forward with the case.
Said low life stripper was smiling when she left the house that night per photographs shown on national television and tried to get back into the house where the alleged rape occured to get her SHOE.
Boyfriend is probably put in quotes because he's actually her pimp.
"I did not have sex with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky" comes to mind.

"How can I best spin this to my advantage?"

head bob, head bob
finger snap, finger snap
She has all the "slap me" moves.
The Press has played everyone all through this.
You're right. Pimp OR client from the "escort" service.
The press spins everything now -- not just politics.
Hey Peach! Like I said, I'm still reading the other thread. And a couple of posters there were rehashing the xoxo riddle/posts -- the ones hinting about following the DNA. Now I'm intrigued and I'm going to review the xoxo posts.
Boyfriend=pimp doesn't seem right. Why would the DA's office protect a pimp? The Durham police haven't seemed hot on this case. Several posters have noted that the police don't seem to be on board with the DA's agenda.
I'm wondering if her "boyfriend" works in the DA's office.
This whole case stinks -- something else seems to be going on here.
Does she have a real boyfriend? As in not her pimp? I know she has an ex-husband. He's been all over TV, but I don't know if she has a boyfriend outside of these other two. Do You?
>>Boyfriend is a too broad a term to use in a law case. It has to be clarified.
"I did not have sex with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky" comes to mind.<<
Let's leave the stainmaker out of this! ;)
So what do you think ABC is clarifying by using "boyfriend" in quotes? It strikes me as more of a suggestive wink than a clarification. Or is ABC quoting someone who used the term "boyfriend"?
Honestly, "boyfriend" in quotes just jumped out at me when I read the story. I think it's unusual.
Anyone ever notice that there aren't any "friends" of our "Mother of the Year" around....only the second dancer. Where's her best friend, her kind uncle, her favorite aunt, her teacher....all willing to say how wonderful she is?
Reading the ABC story again, the term "boyfriend" seems to be a quote from Crystal's mother.
I agree..."Boyfriend" in quotes is an eye-popper.

This woman, Crystal Gail Mangum, is nothing but a scumbucket.
This whole thing is sickening.
The story stinks like 3 day old fish.
"Why would the DA's office protect a pimp?"
Because Nifong himself is a pimp?
You mentioned how they spin things besides politics. You're the first FReeper I've run this past, Peach...so I hope you don't laugh. 'Course if I'm way out of line, feel free to reel me in.
I'm suspicious that while this LOOKS totally different from the Scooter Libby and Tom DeLay political indictments, it really isn't. To me it looks like Nifong used this totally for political reasons. You'd agree thus far, right, because he was running in an election to keep his job, and he needed lots of votes from blacks and from white liberals.
But what if this goes beyond Nifong and his petty little political career? What if it's just to remind blacks that it's Democrats who "take care of their issues"? Yes, I know this was a Dem primary, but there aren't any Republicans with a chance there, so the Dems hero becomes Nifong, who stands up for blacks. His opponents in the election, also Dems, get defeated and essentially forgotten. But more conservative types, including most Republicans, see Nifong for what he is and blast out the truth. Many blacks might only see that it was a white Democrat standing up for this black girl against all the odds, which is how the Dems always act...the White Liberal Dem is looking to take care of you black folks.
Lesson: don't go voting for any GOP. What are they good for? Would a GOP have done for this girl what the Dem DA did? Never mind that it was a terrible legal case, that's not the point.
Peach, I don't think it's a coincidence that this happens in the year when Ken Blackwell and Michael Steele and Lynn Swann are running as REPUBLICANS in very important races, and are hoping to pull some black votes away from the Dems.
Just my take...
The defense attorney alluded to the fact that the DNA evidence belonged to a person "known to the Durham Police" and that this person was not a lacrosse player. The impression I got by the tone of his voice was that "known" means past criminal behavior.
Excellent Synopsis, and most likely what really happened.
