First DNA link possible in lacrosse case

DURHAM -- Tissue found under the fingernail of an exotic dancer who claimed she was raped at a Duke University lacrosse party may match a player who was there, several well-placed sources said Wednesday.

Analyzing the tissue, scientists concluded it came from the same genetic pool and was "consistent" with the bodily makeup of one of 46 lacrosse players who gave DNA samples for testing, the sources said.

At the same time, scientists ruled out a possible match with any of the other 45 students, according to the sources.

If accurate, the fingernail tissue match would offer the first DNA evidence potentially linking the dancer and an alleged attacker.

But because a complete DNA pattern was not obtained from the tissue, it was not possible to match it with the nearly 100 percent certainty that DNA results usually offer, the sources added.

The dancer told police she clawed at three attackers as they raped and sodomized her for 30 minutes during the March 13-14 lacrosse house party at 610 N. Buchanan Blvd.

This is absolutely incredible what they're trying to do to that taxi driver. It's starting to sound as though Durham's legal system is transplanted from Nigeria or Haiti.

Oh, for crying out loud. This could easily be the DNA of the player who carried her to the car!!!

Just now GMA played this story surprisingly straight. They made it clear the DNA was not a match. It'll be interesting to see how the rest of the DBM does...

The Herald-Sun does name the officer.

Baker said he plans to report on his findings Monday night to the City Council, after he has a chance to speak to Sgt. John Shelton, the District 2 patrol supervisor whose cell phone conversation Day overheard.

They found this new fingernal in the garbage. But where did they find the pubic hair? In the same garbage bag as the pubic hair? or in the house? Either way, that would be WEAK evidence too.

ALso, if one of the guys picked up the nails that were on the floor and threw them in the trash can, his sweat/skin cells are probable on them.
This is weak.

I feel sorry for this poor sucker.

The sound of my wife stubbing her toe and the sound of my wife lacerating her finger with a kitchen knife (happened) reach the same level of intensity. Now I just call out "are you seriously hurt?"

There's a male pubic hair (unknown where it was on the AV) and it didn't reveal any DNA .. but they claim it was from a White Male. But, NO MATCH on the Pubic hair due to the poor quality (missing root).

______________

That pubic hair could have been on her from before she got to the party.

It's a match to the 3rd (90%) suspect.

Yeah, the 3rd suspect they didn't identify until they got a DNA match. Every day this thing stinks even worse.

Where are the race whores? Will they be coming to the defense of this man who is obviously being railroaded?

Nah, it is up to us, a bunch of conservatives. (Being conservative trumps skin color "on the okay to hate" list)

Seriously someone higher up needs to start investigating the DA's office in this case.

That's just what I was thinking, bwteim. But it sounded so extreme that I hesitated.

It's time for the bar or the AG to step in and put a stop to this. I don't mean they can dismiss the case but they can get Nifong in line.
_____________

I agree, but apparently nobody in power gives a damn about straight white guys.

If the indicted were from a protected group, we would have heard calls of outrage from the senators in the state of NC by now.

A partial DNA match found on stick-on acrylic fingernails from a trashcan.

Rock solid evidence. /sarc
__________

Exactly. The key words there are STICK ON nails, which mean even when they are off the adhesive can still attract material especially if picked up by someone and put in a trash can.

Gottlieb is the investigator who led the accuser through the photo ID. When she said of Picture 5, "He looks just like him (one of the attackers) only without the mustache." Gottlieb helpfully asked, "OK, so the person had a mustache?" and she answered, "Yes,"

Wonder how he'll explain indicting another clean shaven player?

I don't think it is extreme. When people in authority decide to "get" you - as opposed to examining where the facts take them - look out. And it sure seems as if Nifong is in just that mode.
