You said, in part: He had to settle for UNC-Chapel Hill.
***

It is not "settling" to go to UNC vs. Duke. Sadly, both have a terrible liberal atmosphere, but those who look for it can find a very substantial conservative core-- just look for the ones who are actually working. I am a double Carolina grad, and my wife has a Pharmacy degree from Carolina also. We didn't "settle." (And we don't have student loans outstanding, either.)

Of course, facts don't matter.

Sorry - that was a joke - I should have put my "settle" in quotes. I know the children of UNC grads who get into Duke and go to UNC because of family tradition. I also know the reverse.

Right. That's why the coach resigned.

If my son gets into to Duke we will support him fully (after all, it won't be like he turns out to be gay or something), but my wife and I both hope he will prefer Carolina, or even NC State.

He (Nifong)can now claim that the reason he did this is because the alleged victim indicated a much larger number were involved and not just the two accused.

He would, in such circumstances, be expected to expand the pool of non-team men rather than merely show all - and only - team members to the asserted victim.

His initial showing of only team members was blatantly improper and unprofessional - and remains so.

"If no physical evidence can be tied to the accused and this becomes a he said - she said, this fact will be weighed heavily by the jury."

Sorry to have to say this, but when you consider the priorities of other juries--

OJ,
the murder of Meir Kahane (in front of a roomful of witnesses),
the murder of Y. Rosenbaum (sp?--the perp caught with the knife still on him, the victim's blood on the knife, and an ID made by the victim before he died)--

all acquitted by juries despite the evidence (and in a couple of cases the juries afterwards celebrated by partying with the accused and their lawyers),

then what chance do the 'white privileged' of Duke have in Durham?

This leak is damage control for the prosecutor.

He blundered big time when he showed the alleged victim a photo array of all the lacrosse players and did not include any independent photos.

He can now claim that the reason he did this is because the alleged victim indicated a much larger number were involved and not just the two accused.
___

He still should've included fillers in the line up. Young medn who are not Duke LAX players.

"The real belly laugh here, however, is the Duke "report" which basically says this: "Although the allegations are incredible on their face and no sane person could believe them, we forgot this was a 'Black Victim of over-privileged White college boys case', so we should have taken it very seriously. We were blinded by the University's 'lack of diversity of life-experiences.' We are so ashamed."

Can any Freeper please email me an Internet site where I can download that report. Things like that can't be invented - except by the Libroid mind!

And please don't tell me it is a mere sarcasm - this is a series issue. Well, maybe 'issue' is the wrong term, given the nature of the "crime".

But, then again, it is beginning to look as though there is no issue because no 'issue' was possible. But it was certainly 'conceivable' in the mind of the Democrap Prosecutor.

I would think this would deter future incidents, also. But I was shocked, when a few weeks ago, a Duke baseball player threw his bat at the umpire after striking out. Did anyone see that? They showed it on most news channels, and, believe me, it wasn't an accident.

As an NCSU grad I will have to agree with you. I'd pick UNC over Duke any day... In fact I will even support UNC except during The Game. :-)

That wasn't a Duke baseball player, it was a Durham Bull, which is a minor league team affiliated with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

I think I know what she means. These guys, I feel are innocent. But all it takes is drinking and inviting the wrong girls over....I think they and other guys will learn from this.
As to the accuser? I hope in the next few months she gets CAUGHT in a lie or lies. She seems to have a pattern, so I hope it's not long before she makes another mistake. I don't wish harm; I just wish she exposes her true self. (No pun intended.)

Thanks for the correction! My mistake. I thought for sure the announcer said he was from Duke. I usually don't "judge," but when I saw that, I wondered what he was thinking after all the problems there at Duke with athletes. This is the first time I repeated the story, so I didn't start any rumors, except here! Glad you corrected me. Thanks again!

Nifong is the son of Duke educated parents. Apparently he couldn't get in. Delayed animus.

OT:

I was an engineering professor at NCSU for 14 years. I could have taught at a private university somewhere but chose a land grant because I support that mission. However, I came to realize that the land grant didn't support its own mission and it was "all about the (research) money". Used to be "Prof" meant "professor". Now it means "profit center". I now work somewhere where it's supposed to be all about the money.

Here's a key difference between Duke, UNC and NCSU. Because Duke is so incredibly selective the students there are more uniformly prepared for college work (notice I didn't say smarter) and your state of origin plays little role in your chance of admission. With some exceptions, admissions are strictly on merit. As a professor, what that means in terms of a class is that you can push the class really hard and everyone can keep up.

I can tell you first hand that's not true at NCSU. I had seniors in engineering classes who had difficulty doing algebraic manipulation. They were at the bottom of the class - but still!

I think UNC is better off but even so, if they did their admissions strictly on merit they would take most of every class from the wealthy counties of Orange, Durham, Wake and Mecklinburg. One form of diversity at UNC requires that they take students from all of NC's counties and there is an effective quota on out-of-state students. That does mean that some less-well-prepared students do get in. This is caused by the deplorable condition of the schools in some counties. (That's a different discussion.)

That being said, you can get a fine education at any one of the three.

Everyone jokes about the "University of New Jersey at Durham" but the fact is that Duke is far more geographically diverse than UNC or NCSU. This can be an important factor if your job aspirations lie outside of NC because by the time you graduate you will have a set of nationwide contacts.

For my money, and if you can afford it, for a real education for your undergraduate then you should avoid the famous "Research I" and "Division I" athletics universities. Places like Furman and Rice come to mind. Admissions are very competitive, but your undergraduate will actually be taught by a real professor as opposed to a Chinese teaching assistant with limited English language skills (a real complaint voiced to me by neighbors with kids at UNC and I know it routinely happened at NCSU.) Save the big university for graduate school.

Yeah - he could have interspersed them with UNC lax players. This is a half serious suggestion. Easiest place to go to get a similar group. What a hoot it would have been if she picked out one of them.
