A committee said Monday that Duke University administration was slow in addressing the alleged rape involving members of the lacrosse team.
It said key administrators relied too heavily on initial reports from Durham police that the alleged victim "kept changing her story and was not credible."

As I've posted more times than I can count, former President Terry Sanford would have had this sorted out in about three days. Among other things he worked two years as an FBI agent.
In fairness to the Duke admin, they had no reasonable expectation or knowledge that the Durham DA would go nationwide with this story. They probably thought they has some time to carefully sort things out. That doesn't mean they ignored it.
I've often wondered why folks think that rich, clean cut, white, Christian men never seem to work hard... In most cases rich, white, Christian men know the alternatives and chose hard work in areas which provide long term rewards over instant gratification...
I for one do not see that as a character flaw in need of diversification.... I see the diversification required in those groups who complain that someone is better off than they and seeks to bring them down to their level....
Heck, it's not like the cops don't already have those women's number, when the call comes in.
That would really haved sucked if indeed there was a rape.
Crystal was on Ambien! Yeah, that's the ticket! Maybe she and Paddy can play checkers in the patients lounge, hahahaha!
Thank you for the ping.
Nifong's investigators have this timeline for the AV:
"The female arrived at the residence for a party close to 11:30pm on Monday 3/13/2006 and left on Tuesday 3/14/2006 reportedly after midnight."

I expect most of you who have been following this on FR are fully aware of the implications of this sort of accusation in the South.
Rape isn't a hand-slap sort of case in North Carolina. If these guys are convicted they won't see the light of day for many years. Defense counsel notwithstanding, nobody around this part of the country wants rapists on the streets. De facto life sentences (30-60 years) are common for first-time rape convictions when there is any kind of aggravating circumstance.
Partially because of a history of lynching, there is an exaggerated concern with "messing" with women of another race. Historically African-americans were subject to being lynched on suspicion, whites were held to very heavy penalties on conviction. Even now, juries and judges aren't going to cut these guys any slack if they are found guilty.
I share in the distress that some feel over the fact that these guys will have to put their educations and their careers on hold. I feel a little outrage over the fact that these guys are going to receive nothing but blame and harsh discipline from their school even if they are innocent.
My big concern is that these guys and their lawyers recognize the size of the stakes and protect themselves (again, if innocent) against wrongful conviction. In my judgement this is a 15-25 year sentence hanging over them.
I don't think the defense is going to hurry anything along, if that hurry might add any risk at all to the chances of conviction.
Here is the report from ABC11.
LOL....he's really going with that?
It said that the initial assessment affected not only the senior administration's perception of the incident, but also may have influenced the behavior of lacrosse players. The committee found that it may have lulled players "into a false sense of security about the events shortly to unfold." It said players "might well have sought legal counsel sooner, had they been aware of the stakes."
where?
11:30 p.m.: Bissey, after being out for a while, returns to his apartment . Several young men are gathered near the back door of 610 Buchanan.
11:50 p.m.: Bissey, on his porch, notices two women walk to the back of the house, where a man greets them.
Midnight: Bissey sees the two women go into the house.
12:20 TO 12:30 a.m.: Tuesday, March 14, Bissey hears voices in the alley beside the house. At least two men are discussing money, one saying, "It's only $100." Bissey sees a man leaning into the window of a car parked outside the house. One of the women he saw earlier gets out of the car and says she needs to get her shoe. She walks to the back door of the house.
Between 12:45 AND 1 A.M.: Bissey sees a car, which at least one of the women had been in earlier, speed away. One man standing across from the house, on the Duke campus, shouts, "... Thank your grandpa for my nice cotton shirt." Several men come out of the house; Bissey hears at least one of them say, "Guys, let's go," repeatedly. Within minutes, there is silence. The lights at 610 Buchanan are dim, and no one is outside.
based on what?
Based on whatever he needs to make her story the truth, I guess.
At the top of this thread.
Is this a farce? Dingaling Brodhead throws his own students and coach under a bus for what is obviously exaggerated if not outright false police reports. Now we learn that the Durham PD determined at the very beginning that the accuser has, as they say, credibility issues. It is amazing how the Durham PD has made efforts to distance itself from this whole debacle and the dingbat DA. Absolutely no evidence has emerged supporting any of the stories the accuser has concocted, and the careers and life trajectory of many people have been ruined.
Only in academia could they conclude that the problem was insufficient diversity, and glorify Brodhead for his rash actions at the expense of his students and university. What a horse's rear end. As we said in college, go to the store, buy a clue, get a free grip.
Again I ask: what can we as alumni do to "Pressler" Brodhead?
D'OH!! I shoulda looked there, instead to trying to be a smartass, lol..
It's quite shocking, IMO.
OK... Let's say for the sake of argument that the AV arrives about 11:30...
Bissey tells us at 11:50 he sees the girls in the car together and some guy is leaning in the window talking to them... They then get out and go into (or back into) the house at 12:00..
They got there at 11:30, danced for a few minutes, got mad at the "here use this" statement, got redressed, walked out to the car and were sitting there at 11:50 when Bissey saw them get out and walk to the back porch...
It is still a monumental stretch to think that 3 guys could rape her in that amount of time between getting dressed and back in the car in time to get coaxed back inside at 11:50...
But, Bissey had the whole story right. He mentioned them coming out and being talked back in, he mentioned Crystal missing a shoe.. Bissey gets it all right, in that initial story when he doesn't know what Nifong is saying
The DPD was on record as of "Friday, March 17, 2006 10:16 AM" ...
"The Durham Police District 2 Criminal Investigations Violent Crimes Unit is conducting an investigation concerning a rape of a young woman by three males at 610 N. Buchanan that was reported on 3/14/06 in the early morning hours. The female arrived at the residence for a party close to 11:30pm on Monday 3/13/2006 and left on Tuesday 3/14/2006 reportedly after midnight. ..."
