PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Carlos Oliveras has a home run ball specially marked to assure authenticity.
It just doesn't have Barry Bonds' autograph as the slugger refused to sign the ball.
The 25-year-old Air Force serviceman bought his lucky ticket because he wanted to see Bonds chase Babe Ruth on the career home run list. Oliveras had little idea he'd be the one being chased -- by fans, by media -- after snagging career home run No. 713.

Ping!
When Carlos Oliveras asked if Barry Bonds would sign the ball from his 713th home run, Bonds smirked and said nothing.
The guy was a Bonds fan? I didn't think they existed outside San Fransicko.
Can anyone imagine the Babe reacting that way to a fan? Not a chance.
These are bad days for baseball...I'm surprised they are really going to allow Bonds to go through with breaking the records.
This like the 1919 Black Sox scandal.

Bonds is a pric* but consider it an investment
Mister Class and Quality strikes again.
The only difference between Barry Bonds and a 250lb. sack of steroid-injected horse manure is the sack. He should be banned from baseball like Pete Rose was/is. He is pure poison to the sport, and to the fans.
How does marking the ball work?
Nothing new for Bonds -- he's as bitter a guy as I've ever seen in sports.
The kid had to sign a waiver so Bonds could have him appear on his ESPN show, but Barry can't sign the kid's ball.
That tells you everything you need to know about the guy.
Sadly, I must admit I've been awaiting the end of his career due to a Mark McGuire like knee breakdown.
713 isn't worth anything unless it doesn't lead to 714 and 715.
There is still only one Babe Ruth and one Hammerin Hank.
I also read that the Philly fans booed when the Jumbotron had a live telecast of a guy proposing marriage to his girlfriend. And once, during an Eagles game, the Philadelphia fans booed Santa Clause!
Santa didn't deserve the boos, and maybe the engaged couple didn't either but Bonds should be booed wherever he goes.
If I caught #714 or #715 I would throw it back on the field ala Wrigley fans.
For one thing, the would-be counterfeiter would have to have either A) the ball in question, or B) the league specs on the ink and stamp design for the ball in question. The latter is very closely guarded, you can be quite sure.
Skinny yes, but sober!
