Didn't people say this about SS numbers too?
And then credit cards?
To: churchillbuff
Not this crap again! Who's wackier, the people who think we need yet another ID system or the folks who think its a plot by satan? I got a million IDs, from a SS# all the way to my gym membership plan. Satan is one busy fella.

But detractors note the cards are virtual national IDs since the federal law has dictated what data must be included and that each state must share its database with the others. My state also requires the SSN as a condition to issue a driver's license or ID card.
Furthermore, IIRC, HR 4437 also requires two additional federal databases to be created, linked to our SSN. The federal databases will include 'personal identifiers' on top of Social Security information, IRS records, driving records, etc.
HR 4437 also proposes a pictured SSN card.
National ID is here. The Republican politicians want it

Is coming national ID 'mark of the beast'?
An assault on civil liberties and the Constitution? Yes. The mark of the beast? No. I believe the beast referred to in Revelation was Rome generally, Nero specifically.
To: churchillbuff
I'm not worried about it being the mark of the beast unless they stamp 666 (or some other such thing) on my hand or forehead. And tell me to renounce God. If it doesn't have those conditions its not the mark.

Why not just make a passport that is the size of a DL?
IF you are a citizen you have the passport, if you are not a citizen you have your resident alien card, if you are a tourist or visitor you have the I-94 (or I-94w) card.

No, no, no. The biblical "mark of the beast" is an embedded finger bar code that allows you to shop and live. It can be turned off at CentComp with dire consequences. Other than that, it make commerce easier, originally assisted with stopping terrorism, and now (2070) is the best totalitarian control mechanism ever invented...

I will offer folsk on this thread that an official REAL ID is the governments way of recognizing our individuality. We are all different and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. In fact I pose that this is the very opposite of communism and socialism that seeks to establish that we are all the same.
There is no right not to be ID'd. To me that is a silly thing to even try to say. Everyone on this site has an ID that they were rquired to give up information to gain. I love that little tidbit because it exposes all those that argue against it as people that will do something and then cry about it all day long.
This ID form will not be used to target you for punishment due to race, creed, ethnicity, gender, sexual preference or anything of the kind. This ID will be used to make ordinary functions in society be orderly, organized, and far more efficient than it is today.
SOme say this is the same as Nazi antics. They intentionally miss the fact that the policy the germans employed was to weed out jews for extermination. That is not even close to the purpose of this ID today. I offer that is a very disingeuous argument put forward by people that want to argue something but cannot find a realistic current or valid argument to offer in its stead.
ID is a part of life in 2006 and there is no way to avoid that. It is time that we see this in the eyes of reality and understand that doing that ID ing in the most positive efficient way benefits us all.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I have at least three forms of ID in my wallet. Worrying about a national ID card seems a bit silly at this point.

It's not the mark of the beast, but it won't work, because this country does not apply laws equally to all people, regardless of national origin, race or religion.
Law-abiding citizens would do what is required by law, and then there would be those who wouldn't care, aided and abetted by the ACLU and the democratic party.

I understand that ID cards are not a welcome prospect in the US but the fact is that you will never be able to tackle the
Vote fraud / Illegals problem without one
It's not foolproof but it helps
Just as a sum-ed up demo here is how it goes in Belgium
You receive an official personal convocation that specifies at which voting station you should go ( which is the ONLY place you will be allowed to vote )
There you give your convocation and ID to the manager of the station who check you out on is list ( not on the list, good bye )
After voting you get back your ID + your convocation who as been stamped visibly " A VOTE "
The system make vote fraud very difficult About the only system that could work better is the " purple finger " but you still need good ID

Good question.
"He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.
And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
We are at an interesting place in history. In city after city in the west, the quietest time of the week on the highways is Sunday morning as the majority of our populations don't go to church. Christians are a minority population here, and while we are politically organized enough to have pull at the present time, I think if 100% of our population voted in a referendum on our values (especially those regarding abortion and premarital sex), some of us would be shocked at how sound a defeat we would suffer.
Regarding the mark of the beast, I don't know that a national ID card is it. There seems to be an aspect of allegiance or worship in the above verses that goes beyond just buying and selling.
The latter-rain pentecostal fantasies aside, I think I will live to see the day that membership in the christian church in the west is embraced to the same extent as membership in Al-Quida is today. When that day comes, and to participate in American civic and commercial life you must renounce your faith, you will have seen the arrival of the mark of the beast.
These things don't happen overnight, so things like social security numbers used in commerce, National ID papers, etc are all precursors designed to change the course of the Titanic. It's coming though.
