ingrate; noun

n : a person who shows no gratitude [syn: thankless wretch, ungrateful person]

Etymology: [From Middle English ingrat, ungrateful, from Old French, from Latin ingrtus : in-, not; see in-1 + grtus, pleasing, thankful; see gwer-2 in Indo-European Roots.]

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

I'm never in the Downtown area so I won't know anything from that part of the City but I would figure that if no one is working today, Southwest Houston will be one big street party. I feel sorry for the Police department today. They will be working overtime.

That will partly be a problem of their own making, I'm afraid....since HPD decided several years ago that they would NOT EVER inquire as to the legal/illegal residency status of immigrants whom they encounter. (i.e. "sanctuary city")

Oh. Well it is obvious they don't care around here because every house built in the entire area is illegal labor.

We allow our dogs to urinate on The Comical, but that is the ONLY function it serves here.

It is so full of $#!+ that it must have an ideal odor to condition the dogs for paper training.

My GF came to this country from Copenhagen, Denmark, not even speaking English, went to night school to learn it, opened his own business, married my GM who emigrated from Scotland and already knew English, built his own house and successfully grew his business and raised a family. Someone should tell the ingrates that is how it is supposed to work.

is this all bc of eating fish on fridays? you know my HS while public, was probably 80% catholic. we had literally 2 jewish kids, no arab, buddhist, nothing else weird, and a handful of Protestants. who was going to catholic bash in that environment. and i am talking a HS class of 650 kids. never heard any anti catholic terms in my life.

My grandma had about a sixth-grade education. Both of my parents grew up speaking Slovak and Polish, respectively in the home. However, my mom said there was a "switch" in her head....outside playing with her friends: English, in the house: Slovak.

When did assimilation become such a bad thing? Incoming cultures share some pieces, take others away.

I heard those terms back in elementary skool in KY. Kids were probably 90% baptist then. Most of the Catholics went to parochial skools.

The nicknames were, I assure you, only used affectionately, as there was no animosity amongst the children.

i imagine that out of necessity, my parents spoke it at home when they were little, but they were not able to speak when i was old enough to understand. they could UNDERSTAND my grandmothers when they spoke in their language, but they could only answer in english. i know my mom would always make fun of these cousins of hers that were very hoity toity growing up, not wanting to be associated with being Lithuanian etc. And then when they were older and retired they took Lithuanian classes and even joined the Lithuanian Nationality classroom group down at Pitt. my mom thought they were posers, HA!

my bro and i went to PAROCHIAL school growing up too (funny in the olden days they were called Parochial instead of Catholic, so that you would almost think that parochial was a synonym of catholic!). the heathen neighbor kids thought we were uppity bc of it, too. which is hysterical. i wish my parents were still around for me to ask what went into their decision to send us to Catholic school, bc i assure you, my parents did NOT have money to be throwing away on tuition.

and of course all of yunz were inbred toothless kentuckyians, so who is going to bear animus against another'n even if they are catholic, you were probably related to them somehow anyway~ ; )
