Word For The Day, Monday, 5/1/06
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
ingrate; noun
n : a person who shows no gratitude [syn: thankless wretch, ungrateful person]
Etymology: [From Middle English ingrat, ungrateful, from Old French, from Latin ingrtus : in-, not; see in-1 + grtus, pleasing, thankful; see gwer-2 in Indo-European Roots.]
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Anyone notice that the immigrants are now waving American, rather than Mexican, flags? Maybe it makes one less of an ingrate to quit loyalty to a native land that treated him like dirt.
yes the PR people for these agitators discerned that it was probably better to wave US rather than Mexican flags, because it didn't go over well at all the first time out. A++
I need a new rosemary plant. Mine bit the dust two winters ago and it was a well-mulched thick shrub. I keep checking Depot for it since I want the "Arp" variety. It adds just the right balance to my perennial bed.
is rosemary a perennial? i had it in a pot on the deck and i saw something that looked like it might be coming back in that pot, but wasn't sure. i didn't put anything else in it and will wait and see.
It might be coming back. It is a tender perennial.
It has to get really cold here for rosemary planted in the ground to freeze-one of my rosemary clumps froze to the ground, but it is coming back now-the other two are more sheltered from the north wind, so they didn't suffer any damage.
By the way, I didn't see closed businesses, signs, or other evidence of illegal alien protests yesterday-I figured it was probably because I worked in the boonies ratther than the city. Hubby worked in Kerrville yesterday, and he didn't see or hear anything either, but he said when he left for work in SA this morning he supposed he'll hear all about anything that happened out of the ordinary.
I'm off to do an estimate and paint,in hopes of getting home earlier than I did yesterday-I'll come to class later...
Three stolen cars were abandoned on our street in the wee hours this morning and I live in suburbia. They left the Lincoln with PA plates right in front of my house in the middle of the road. The Lexus was down the road and I don't know what the other one is. The Lincoln had a banged-up rear bumper with grass under it. The cop wasn't happy. He is at the end of a 12 hour shift and now this.
Just going to set up today's word. Be back soon!
A perennial what? And why are you calling Rosemary names? What did she do to you?
You'd better be careful. xs will excoriate you for lolly-gagging in here rather than opening up a new class.
i save all of my excoriation for you, honey bunch....
A very bad PR move, IMO...boycotts can cut both ways.
I had a southwestern crabcake salad with cilantro-lime vinaigrette the other day, and it was YUMMY!! Ever eaten at a Firebirds Rocky Mtn Grill? That was where I had it..LOVE that place!
i can't imagine that they know how much damage they have done themselves with this stuff.
sounds great except for the cilantro. i first had it in Colombia and it made me violently ill. i just can't take the taste of it for whatever reason! i haven't heard of the restaurant but it sounds neat.
Wish me luck on this, you two!
Hell, I'm just wishing you GodSPEED.
