By the Lords of Kobol ... The SCI FI Channel has stunned fans today with the announcement of Caprica, a spin-off series from its top-rated Battlestar Galatica. SCI FI calls the potential new show "television's first science fiction family saga," centering on the history of the Adama family and the birth of the Cylons.
Set more than 50 years before the events of Battlestar Galactica, Caprica takes place on the capital world of the Twelve Colonies. There humankind thrives, living in a peaceful society with the benefits of high technology. But the development of an advanced, robotic, artificial life form is about to change everything.
The show is in development by Galactica executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, 24 writer Remi Aubuchon, and NBC Universal Television Studio.

Sounds smart to me. Moore has put a lot of work into developing exactly this section of the back story, might as well make some direct money with it.
i thought the same thing about Stargate Atlantis. Makes one wonder if the old style (TOS) Centurions are going to show up. BY YOUR COMMAND...
just damn. If you had told me this at the beginning of the month, I would have thought April Fool's, but wow. That explains the delay.
Well, I really like BG, but not sure about this one. From what I'm reading in this, it looks like a clunker.
It looks like this is just an idea in development at this point. IF it eversees the light of day, I have a feeling it will either be unwatchable cr@p or one of the best shows ever...
You are correct, sir.
By the Lords of Kobol, This is excellent!
Any word when Season 2.5 will come out on DVD? I missed it on TV and am feeling frustrated!
I'll have to check it out. it could be good. Maybe my seven year old daughter and I will like it - something other than Cartoons or Drake & Josh ;-)
Quite possibly a HUGE mistake.
They can definitely get a few seasons of horsepower out of this. What will be interesting (at least from the geek POV) will be to see the level of automation and computer technology they incorporate before the Cylon War. Who knows, maybe cybernetics might have been prevalent as well but then banned after the wars (or even the cyborgs went WITH the cylons as base material for the next gen cylons). Galactica series never seems to mention it.
How about Stargate: Galactica vs. the Borg and the Daleks.
And not whatever new Daleks they have in the new series (I haven't seen it), but the 1963 ones: http://www.jeffbots.com/daleks.html
Oh, and the show should be animated. Like South Park.
There's a red flag as far as I'm concerned. It would be OK if they manage to keep the Adamas from being personages of historical significance, but I'm afraid they won't. That starts to make things less believable, as there was nothing from the series to suggest that Adama came from any kind of well-known family. I don't like when stories feel like they need to start revising their own history just for the sake of some gimmick.
On the other hand, maybe the spinoff series could explain the meaning of this painting hanging in Adama's office on the Galactica.
That is an awesome picture....
