The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Check eBay to see if someone is selling a remote to your machine. One never knows, does one?

I'd go with the eBay suggestion. I don't know if a universal remote can be made to do anything but the basic operations.

Or, just set all the other clocks to blink [12:00] and then it won't look out of place. :-)

It's a yes/no situation. Most of the functional groups are considered almost public domain.

I guess any Steyr patents would be almost 30 years old now, so the details are certainly in the public domain.

Still, it was a pleasant surprise to take down the PS90, and discover an "old friend" inside.

It took me a while, but I got it all figured out. Ugh, I do feel dense though!

See, for the longest time, I had three freestanding VCRs with remotes. Two recorded the jedis curriculum from the dish. Joshua used the other to do his schoolwork and Matthew had a TV/VCR combo.

Then, Matthew's TV/VCR combo quit working...the VCR part. So I asked on the egroup if any of the ladies had a VCR I could borrow till the end of the school year and two of the ladies just gave me these two VCRs with no remotes.

So after I posted my frustration with GE, it dawned on me I could use the three VCRs with remotes to record and the jedis could use the two without remotes for their daily work (I could even get them universal remotes for convenience!)

So I set to the task of wiring in another VCR into my receiver...took me forever and dang near gave me a aneurism, but I did it!

This will make my life infinitely easier come schooltime...instead of recording 10 classes on 2 VCRs, I now can spread them out over three.

Hey, thanks! That's great, any tips you have are much appreciated... hearing it looks pretty good makes my day anyway.

That's cool, girl! I haven't even yet figured out how to operate the DVR with our DISH network!

Evenin'. 'twas a loooooong day. We've had so much rain lately I feel like we're in WA state or sumptin! I can't even guess how many inches have fallen, but it's nothing like what the Eastern Shore* got over the weekend. We haven't lost power for anything more than a minute or so, so there's that.

Er,

* The Eastern Shore is the little spit of land consisting of Delaware, Maryland, and a bit of Virginia that separates the Chesapeake from the Atlantic.

So, it's one thing to come back from an extended absence and play the "eeeww, what's that smell?" game.

It's a bit disconcerting to have to play it when people have actually been livin' in yer house.

I'm just sayin' is all...

Best I could figger it was somethin' they cooked. I put in a new air freshener, took out the trash and dumped the aging fruit.

It's better now.

I'm taking a air condition break from thatching the yard. Joseph mowed it this afternoon, so I'm loosening the old weeds that have died, and have him go over it with the lawnmower again when I'm done to suck up the stuff that came up. Then I'm going to put down the grass seed that I soaked in tea and dried. Supposedly doing that will help it germinate much more quickly when it hits the soil. I sure hope so. We want the yard to be nice and spiffy green when folks come to look at the house!

Ah, so *that's* where our weather went!

I'd like it back, please, if it isn't too much trouble...

OK, so rain isn't all *that* fun, but this heat is for the birds.
