The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I say we dust off and and nuke the site from orbit... it's the only way to be sure.

Do you have a bunch of these things, or just the ones you took pictures of?

He won't sit still for a pic. Says he doesn't "have all the pieces to it yet" Hrm... sounds spendy.

Anyhoo, it's not a tartan per se. The Irish clans traditionally wore solid colors. So it's a solid color - "saffron" - but has a subtle jacquard-like plaid weave to it.

I can't believe he bought a kilt.

Looks rather fetching in it, actually.

Only three more weeks of using the basement laundromat. That will be so nice.

Here's an update...all I know at this point.

Steve got the paper with what just has to be the final "fixes" turned in to his advisor this morning.

He then went to Stillwater on the BOB to speak with the other two guys on his committee. Hope of all hope is that he gets signed off officially from these guys.

He also intended to meet with the formatting guy again, because he made some repairs to the formatting even after he turned it in on Friday.

Depending on what happens today...he might have a pretty easy day of it tomorrow...or, he might have to go *back* to Stillwater for the other committee member's signatures, if they're aren't ready to sign today.

Then Wednesday he has to go back for final instructions from the format guy and possibly the committee signatures if they still haven't signed off. We're really really hoping that Dr. JBY will have finished going over it and be ready to sign off on it on Wednesday, before Steve heads back for the meeting with the format guy. Still, that might not happen till Thursday and a nightmare situation would be Friday.

So every day has so many variables and we just have to wait and see how it works out. Steve could very well come home with the Stillwater committee member's sigs...that would make today pretty good!

As Forrest Gump says..."One less thang..."

I'll let you know as soon as I can when I find out anything.

Yep, had rain last night and this morning.

Fried my power supply but the hard drive is okay. So I'm hopeful that the motherboard and processor survived.

We're supposed to get more rain tonight.

Not that it'll make any of you guys feel better about the thesis situation, but I've been dealing with something similar. I've had a big project going - the data is finally done, the report is finally written. When the data was first finished, it was reviewed by management. This was the go-ahead to write the report. Then the report got reviewed... by the same people who reviewed the data. "Oh wait! Why did you do that this way?" "How come you used this input rather than that?" And so on. The answer to all of their complaints was, "Because you said it was ok when I submitted the study proposal *months* ago, and you said it was ok when we reviewed the data *months* ago. If the error is so big now, why didn't you catch it before?"

Ooh ho ho ho. The penalty for my impudence is to re-run my study again to "see if it'll make a difference." The implication being that if it does make a difference I'll have to rewrite the report... from scratch. Phoey! I re-ran the data at the expense of other projects and whaddya know? It made no significant difference. The powers that be were *not* amused. But at least I can move forward with fixing grammatical errors. Heh.
