Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Until the stars are all alight
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

We built a teepee for our pole beans today...a hugh one, that the jedis will be able to get in to and hide in! Heh!
Also, we found a red-eared slider turtle, a lizard and too many toads to mention. I currently have the lizard and a toad sitting in the living room, taking a break, watching Narnia. The boys have abandoned them for the time being and are swimming.
In other news, the pool has a leak in one of the hoses. No problem. I replaced the other hose last year and know how to fix it.

Wow, 22:00 till 07:00 now that's a long flight. Hope you'll be sufficiently 'medicated' to sleep all the way there. Have a good flight.

I just get the bush beans. I planted another row of bush Italian flat beans yesterday. I still have some soybeans to plant, but no place to plant them.

I can't figure a way to save it... they've really gone a long way to disguise the source of the video. One suggestion, though: try contacting your local CBS station, they may be able to get you a copy of the video, or tell you how you can get a copy.
In other news, we're almost done moving stuff. One or possibly two carloads left, and we're done.

Sounds like a 'sun headache' we prescribe a glass of a suitable beverage. We did more flowers yesterday, annuals this time. We hit 95 on Friday, new record, Saturday and Sunday were much more pleasant.

One or possibly two carloads left, and we're done.WooHoo! Our biggest headache right now is where to put stuff that we want to take out of the house to get it ready to show, but that we plan to take with us on the move. We've already decided that we're going to buy a cargo trailer, and we realized today that we need to get it SOON, so we can start packing stuff in it as we get the boxes ready. That way, they'll be out of the house and garage so that SirKit has room to move around to get the fixing up done. And we can put the furniture that we can do without for the next couple of months in the trailer so that we can paint the rooms. Then we'll have gone a long way toward the packing process by the time we get a contract on the place.
We've been watching the show, "Sell This House", on A&E and getting some good ideas about what folks want and don't want to see as they're going through a house for sale.

A neighbor cat, I think. He was hanging around here for a few months last year. He likes strip steak juice.

Well, I'm plumb tuckered. Got my last bed built. Had an additional one planned, but it'll just have to wait until next year. The one I built today is 8' x 16" for trellis crops. I'm planning to put in 'maters, squashes, 'maters, melons, flowers and 'maters. The weather was nice and the pups helped. I'll take pics as soon as I scare up some batteries. Meanwhile, housework, laundry, errands, etc, etc, etc. Trying to get Big'ol packed for a busy-ness trip this week.
Went to Philly last nite to see the Red Sox play. We were behind home plate ... in the very upmost, topmost row in the whole stadium ... but right behind home plate. Heh. Philly fans are great. They cheer for their team - unlike the Baltimore crowd. Heh.

I'm mostly planting the pole beans for the teepee cover...heh heh...not necessarily to eat. You know of any really tall pole beans? I swear, this thing is like 10-12 feet tall. I'll post pictures tomorrow.
I'm inspired! Gonna get out the Road Grill and grill some burgers! All we have in the house is hamburger right now, but we have plenty of garden-fresh onion and lettuce to go with it and I'm having sauteed summer squash this evening too! (I'd deep-fry it in a batter, but Steve is back on induction, meaning no grain products, and I don't have the heart to do that to him. So I'll just saute it...I like it just fine that way too.)
Oh, the turnips are gone. I gave some to the neighbor over the fence and I harvested all the rest and cleaned them. Don't know what I'll do with them yet. Maybe cook 'em with another one of them ham hocks.
I can't believe this garden, though. I was telling a local garden guru named
Darrell Merrell about my turnips and he said "You planted turnips in the spring?" I said "No, I planted them in January!" He was astounded!

Cute cat! Annie is slowly, very slowly, re-gaining her girlish figure. She has been on one cup of cat food per day, doled out in quarter cup increments, for a month now. She is not quite so heavy to lift, but she still has aways to go...

Grilling chicken here... marinating it in a nice asian sauce. Amazingly a majority of the family will eat it.

Have you looked at those PODS for storage and shipping and use the trailer for Gimli and other equipment? Those PODS things are getting popular around here, we've seen a number of them on our walks.
