The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

That race was awful! We were watching at dinner and it was so sad and we're not even horse fans.

It was heartbreaking. A fraction of a second, and the career of a really promising horse is over, at least so far as racing goes.

I'm back from my travels with no kiddie pool to show for it. I judged my van too narrow.

At least the *town* trip is over.

I just hope he'll at least be OK, even if he can't run again. They don't know anything more yet, do they?

Those flowers are just gorgeous, Rosie. Did you plant them just after you got there, or were they there already?

They were there...one of the plants I was giving the benefit of the doubt earlier this year. There are a few more that haven't proven themselves yet...may start rooting things out soon.

Just put down potting soil in the front for a buncha Cosmos...I hope those work! They'd be lovely.

Speaking of volunteer plants...I discovered I have a patch of mint by the door. So long as it doesn't try to take over the planet, I'm quite happy to have it!

The level of mummification is astounding. It must be dry under the house, I guess that's the good part.

Dang! I was reading about him on the race thread earlier. Sounds like he's lame, but should be ok for stud work later, huh?
