The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Now for some more quality time with my trusty shovel

Hmmm. Garlics..

It's a good day for quality time with a shovel and it is our intention to do some today, as well.

Gypsygirl has been to the dogpark, we've had our coffee, and now to garden store and paint store. Much more pleasant today than yesterday. :-)

That stuff must be deadly. Be careful with it, you'll overdose.

That's the truth! I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with a heart condition!

Well, we're off to breakfast.... back later :~D

I'm worried mine will too. Only so much I can fit...unless I really heap it around 'em. Or is that what you're supposed to do?

Gonna go to Home Depot later today for more dirt...have a place ready for the beans.

I'm gonna be tempted to get more flowers and more fill dirt. I still have some pots that aren't used...

You want to bury tomato stems as much as you can. They'll root and it will help with the water situation during the summer heat. I think I'll just pile some more dirt around them later...not going out again today.

We've got a passing shower right now. I had to chase a bird out of thesunroom a few minutes ago. I had left the screen door open at cat-width and a bird happened to wander in.

I planted my eggplant. Dunno whether I should trust the Deer Off completely or put up the chicken wire. Bunnies love eggplant.

Well, fortunately for the Stormhands' household, it's a good thing that I'm Mootless in Virginia™.

I've been out running around. Too late in the day to find the impatiens I wanted. Finally found 'em at HomeDepot.

But in, what can be nothing other than God's timing, I got home in time to stop Nana from burning the house down. I am not making this up.

She was reheating her sandwich from Arby's last night. Paper bag, aluminum foil and all. Jr. saw the flames in the microwave. I managed to pull the bag out while it was still on fire and put it in the pot Jr. got for me.

While I have a full afternoon of work still ahead, I am currently immobilized by the thought of "what if Nana and Luke had been here alone?"

Honestly folks, I've been struggling with this whole arrangement for months. God forgive me, but I don't know how much more I can take.

So, there's that.

BWAHAHAHA!

If they were there alone it wouldn't have happened... stuff like that only happens to ~Corin~.

You bring "never a dull moment" to a whole new level, Corin!

Seriously, though, I'm glad no one got hurt.

My bachelors buttons just started blooming in a big way!

Yes, I need to weed around 'em...and probably tidy them up a bit. But I do like 'em.

That's... just awful. I'm glad you got home in time.

The brothers have been planting the garden all day today. They grew tomato plants, peppers, marigolds, who knows what else under lights indoors and they're transferring them to the patch today. I went to the grocery store with Dad and we stocked up on supplies for tonight's taco dinner... amazing how much boys eat.

I think it'd transplant OK - seems pretty hardy. You're welcome to come get some at some point!

I also have a few monster-plant spawns, if'n you'd like an indoor type plant...

They look good!

Got the rabbit fence up, transplanted my hibiscus (aka "okra"), planted yellow squash and zucchini, and lots of marigolds. Still got marigolds left.

I also have a nice mess of collards picked and thinned out the kohlrabi. The kohlrabi is cookin' now.
