New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |

Still round the corner there may wait |

Home is behind, the world ahead, |
wouldn't be the first...
Indeed Hair, the 'pool' calls, it wills our stalwart dwarf to come; Beware what lurks beneath the placid waters of the 'pool', Corin.
I guess mebbe I'll start with the shovel and see how far I get. Like I said...shovels I understand. ;-)
I'm thinking I'll finally pick up some garden tools of my own this weekend, too. Mmmm...tools.
and probably won't be last.
And if cutting off the sod goes slow and is too much work, you can reassess the rental from a position of fatigue :~D
We're going out tonight, for a bite to eat and some pints, be back later :~D
So....how did the counter turn out?
That looks like a rather effective means of torture...but I like that it's manual.
I hadn't realized how large rototillers are - I'm glad you mentioned it. Somehow I was picturing something about the size of a weed whacker that I could easily pick up in the van. Um...what can I say? I stoopid.
I've got a little 20 lb. tiller. It's good for tilling already established beds, not for digging new ones. Enter me and my trusty Tru-Value shovel.
Absolutely gorgeous! Got the walls around, and the ceiling over, the counter primed, so I won't be dripping too much paint on the counter. The plumber comes tomorrow to put in the new faucets, and then I have to decide whether to paint or paper. I'm thinking paint for a change, 'cause I can always paper later, and I want to get some work done outside (besides mowing the rapidly growing grass!) LSA
I've got one of those. It's not bad for stirrin' up the dirt for a plant or two. Not sure I'd want to do a whole garden bed. Prolly depends on how soft the ground is already.
But, if you get one, it'll work to help turn your compost as well.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmm... torture...
mrsnad jest planted pole beans, cherry 'maters... pepper plants, and zucchs... it's great cuz I didn't havetuh he'p... mmmmmmmmmmm... raised bed garden...
yuh figger?...
sounds great... can't wait to see it...
I need *something* to turn the compost with, fer sure. I was thinking of just getting a pitchfork. For that matter...I wonder if, if I got the ground pretty well turned over with the shovel, a pitch fork might be enough to loosen it a bit for planting.
Just got in some practice - plowed up a strip of ground where I'm hoping to put pavers. I have the few that were here already, but I'm not sure how I'm going to add to them. The ones that looked like 'em at Home Depot were six bucks a pop. Ouch. Hair suggested alternating flagstones and some plainer ones...that could work. Or I may try spacing them pretty far apart and using regular round river rocks in between...though those might be hard to get semi-level.
It looks like Night of the Lepus out there.
If I ever get a homestead, I want raised beds.
*sigh* Last week I went to a garage sale at a place that was absolutely my ideal - just absolutely gorgeous. They were set well back from the road and had a gate like mine, but then as you went up the road there were apple trees anc cherry trees along the sides, and flower gardens everywhere, and a hugh area with lots of raised beds and a hose hookup and potting stuff and all. The house had a big porch with hanging flowers and flower beds and...well, it was just lovely. Had to have taken them decades to bring it to what it is now.
That does sound lovely. Maybe someday... you can go on the waiting list right after 2J for your own spot of land and I'll put my name down after yours.
It's bachelor's buttons! Like this:
Pretty, they are. I have a different variety in the shade garden in the back - smaller ones with just round flowers - not the spokey ones.
1GB USB drive with MP3 player, digital recorder, FM receiver, six equalizer modes, and a teeny little remote. Street price of $200.
I finally have iris in bloom this season. Moved 'em when I did the stream bed. Got yellow and purple. Just a few, but at least they bloomed.
