Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Until the stars are all alight
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

It has got to be the most chaotic situation I have ever been in. ...
There's no documentation, there's no consistency, the owner is a whack-job, there's a highly-placed and highly-respected rainmaker who's a first-class prima donna (he cries in meetings!), the turnover rate is sky-high ...And I like it. I learn something new every day --- sometimes every hour. I can help people, and they pay for the privilege. And it'll do till I can make something else happen.
What's your internship going to be like?

Try degaussing the monitor. If that doesn't help, it's probably toasted.

I think it's going to be really good. First off they're paying me well - I've been making pittances for so long that I have to keep reminding myself that this is what an
internship pays, when I get a real job, well...
I'll be doing software stuff in a company that is primarily hardware focused, which is great - I have no experience with that. I'm going to be porting C code to a couple different compilers, and I haven't done any C in years, so I'm excited. And also writing a web app for the department I'm interning with to let them collaborate on documents and stuff - I need more details on that, but I'll get them when I get there. I was offered an internship in another department there that would have been much much more boring but then this one came through. The only possible unknown variable in this is my dad works for these guys, so I don't know what that dynamic will be like.
I just hope they keep me busy enough that the next four months pass quickly!

I have to admit that I have no idea what "degaussing" means. :-/

I did bills, I went to the department and changed the backup tapes. Got my hair trimmed. Put a few more things in boxes. Figured out how to best move my hat collection without squashing the hats.
I'm basically trying to ignore my homework here and so far it's sort of working.

I want grilled food!
The weather here can't decide if it's raining or sunny. I should do something outside either way, it's warm enough.

It goes from sun to clouds to sun again. Right now it's clouds and brief sprinkles so the barbecue isn't ruined.

According to FoxWeather, y'all're all under tornado watches for the rest of the afternoon and evening. Keep an eye on the local weather and the local weather reports, please!

RE your tagline: I keep finding cool things too. "I knew I had a chess set!" or the old slide rule I bought at a garage sale... sadly, the center stick seems to have disappeared somewhere.

My computer ~always~ comes on when you plug in, or even move, the power cord... always has.Check the quality of your electrical ground. A poor ground can send a small spike through your AC, which can be interpreted by your PC power supply (which always has a tiny portion of itself awake) as a power on/off signal.
To: 300winmag
I don't know how to check the quality of my ground... :~)

Me neither... but I think it involves snakes and incense. Sounds like you need a Pentecostal-Catholic. I can do the pentecostal part.
Been to church, took some frap to Goodwill and took Luke to thepoolatthegym to get him used to the water again. We started as swim team clinic last week and he wouldn't let go of the instructor...so we may be pushing the season a bit.
In other news...

more'n once.

The race got delayed until tomorrow and the Cubs are getting their butts kicked.
Might as well pay some bills.

Hm...what am I doing again? I'm soooo behind agin...
Got part of the lawn mowed...now the mower quit. I'm assuming I'm out of gas, though I could swear it looks like there's something in there.
So...taking a break for a drink and a trip to the hardware store in due time, to buy a gas can and some other stuff.
