Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Until the stars are all alight
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Mornin'! Shaping up to be a gorgeous day out there!
I slept in...missed the first service. Heading out in about fifteen minutes, and I'll be back around eleven thirty.

It's really weird. First PCI slot I tried, the computer wouldn't post. On the second one, the computer would post but the mouse pointer wouldn't move. So I took the card out, booted up the computer, put the card in and the whole system froze. So I powered down, put the card in a third slot and the computer came on! Everything worked fine so I left the card there.
So now I have to put the router in...what the heck, let's just start from scratch. (The idea is to turn on the cable modem, then the router, then the computer) When I plug the network cable into the card, the computer comes on. Computer works fine, internet connection is set up, computer powers down okay, but silly me can't leave well enough alone. :) I pull the power on the router and the computer starts up again. Go figure.

Tiff came back last night... so Mae's at home... we slept in, ours havent even had breakfast yet. I'm hiding in here having a little more coffee before I go out there...

Mine have been up since early, and they're all driving me nuts. Tam won't shut up, which has Cisco all riled up, and Halvah's eating my flowers in spite of the fact that she has a perfectly good pot of cat grass.
*sigh*

Did they have a weekend to remember? ;-)
Off to get churched up...

No, no, plug the monitor into your portable. The portable should sense a working monitor and try to send it a signal. In this configuration, the only suspect device is your monitor.
Ramius, I have three letters for you: UPC ...

Since they ditched the conference, you should get a weekend of free farm-sitting if you need it at some point, I think.
I'm still tickled about them walking out. Was it really that bad?

Good morning Rose!
I just plugged in the monitor to the laptop and hit fn+f7, but all the monitor is still only showing a small strip of screen on the far left side.
My sister hasn't called me back yet, but I'm pretty sure she has a spare monitor somewhere. *fingers crossed*

Say... you're right. If the monitor is messed up, it'll still be messed up when plugged into laptop. Didn't think of that.

Did you toggle f7 until the laptop screen went dark? It may need to, incase the laptop video can't drive both at once. The toggle is a three-way, that is: laptop only, external only, and both.

I pull the power on the router and the computer starts up again. Go figure. My computer ~always~ comes on when you plug in, or even move, the power cord... always has. It's a pain when you're moving computers and don't want it on yet, but it's always been this way.
To: RMDupree
If you find the monitor is toast, and you need to replace it right away, go down to Goodwill, or to any second-hand computer store, and get a 14" or 15" substitute.

Does the strip you can see on the monitor screen match some part of the screen on the portable?
And (I should have asked this before) do you have a flat panel screen?

Yes, it is showing part of the same screen the laptop is displaying.
And no, it isn't a flat panel. I'll get one of those after I move. My job may be sending my flat panel up to me though, so I wouldn't need to buy one then. :-)
