It has got to be the most chaotic situation I have ever been in. ...There's no documentation, there's no consistency, the owner is a whack-job, there's a highly-placed and highly-respected rainmaker who's a first-class prima donna (he cries in meetings!), the turnover rate is sky-high ...

And I like it. I learn something new every day --- sometimes every hour. I can help people, and they pay for the privilege. And it'll do till I can make something else happen.

What's your internship going to be like?

I think it's going to be really good. First off they're paying me well - I've been making pittances for so long that I have to keep reminding myself that this is what an internship pays, when I get a real job, well...

I'll be doing software stuff in a company that is primarily hardware focused, which is great - I have no experience with that. I'm going to be porting C code to a couple different compilers, and I haven't done any C in years, so I'm excited. And also writing a web app for the department I'm interning with to let them collaborate on documents and stuff - I need more details on that, but I'll get them when I get there. I was offered an internship in another department there that would have been much much more boring but then this one came through. The only possible unknown variable in this is my dad works for these guys, so I don't know what that dynamic will be like.

I just hope they keep me busy enough that the next four months pass quickly!
