The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

You're right dogs shouldn't run loose... but even a poodle can and might LOVE to kill a chicken, without necessarily having any defect or danger to people. The dog very well may have issues and be a bad seed... they'll find that out at the pound... But this incident alone doesn't mean that. and he's only 5 months old.

And as an aside though this was a shepherd... A lab that doesn't kill chickens is more worthless than the one that does :~D

Do people on farms not have lawn furniture?

Okay, so in the grand scheme of things today Corin's problems/annoyances are of lesser significance, but in the category of "I really need to let this go..."

thepool is supposedly having a yard sale this weekend. We signed up for a spot to get rid of some frap (and because the church is NOT having a yard sale this year). But I say supposedly because I've seen no notices, received no emails, seen no signs. So I wonder if we're wasting our time. There's one at thehighschool that's only five bucks more for a spot and I'm wondering if that's not a better bet.

Plus, thepool website still has last year's employment application with MY name and address as the contact...

Is the one at the high school the same time?

Sell at both.... rid yourself of twice the frap. :~D

No, I realize that dogs like to kill chickens - I just mean that a dog with the ability to kill chickens is probably powerful enough to hurt kids and therefore needs to be watched even more closely than a little dog that would like to kill a chicken but probably can't. This incident means that his owners are a problem, not necessarily that he is.

I thought about that. I don't want to screw things up for them. We'll still belong after all.

I just want to be one of them members that pays the full rate and complains but never does anything.

I agree. I haven't been upset with the dog...that would just be silly. But this woman's attitude done pissed me off. I would have killed the dog only to stop it from doing more damage...as it was, I didn't have to and it went home (although it tried to take one of my girls with it.)

I'm gonna give it some serious thought. I was content to just have the source of the problem gone...and even an apology would have been accepted graciously. But her attitude is disgusting. I would have been mortified if my dog did something like this to a neighbor.

Still, you know I don't live in the classiest of neighborhoods and these people are the lowest element. I imagine they're not well off, like much of my neighborhood...but being poor doesn't mean being trashy as much as my neighborhood can prove.

However, having no gumption often leads to being poor and trashy. And these folks don't even have enough gumption to take care of their animals or even their home or car appearance...thus they're poor and living in my neighborhood.

Nah, this year he's not gettin' the profits. He's already signed up to do some yard work for someone for pay.

I usually just say "mow the yard and we'll feed ya..."

She said that the dog didn't dig out of the keeper's yard...she let him out the front door.

Then the woman is a goober and is directly responsible for the dog's actions.
