should he engage in one night stands or find another wife which is more fulling meaningful relationship?

Was sex all that Ramona meant to him? I doubt it. I would have expected him to take more than 2 months to get to know a new woman before marrying her -- especially one whom he never met in person. I am also a little surprised that he didn't pick a slightly more mature woman. I understand that famous older men want a young chick to parade around, but Art is no dummy, and I would think he would want someone a little wiser with whom he could converse.

I've been married 33 years also .... and knew almost immediately on meeting her that she was the right girl. Even though we were just kids in our early 20's.

....... must have been in the stars that year!

;-)

We were in our twenties too.

That isn't what I said

I was saying a man should not be with out a helpmate

Many of your minds want to reduce this about Sex or young chicks etc.

Art is well aware that stuff wears off, man is not met to live alone it it is in the scriptures!

1 Cor 7

2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband

There is a lot said on this topic but the bottem line it is best for one to be married!

If both are happy what is your problem?

I consider it grossly immoral to have children when a parent is more than 40

I consider that comment to be utterly foolish.

I like Art and hope he stays healthy. But I find this disturbing too. I had a uncle who's wife died and he married the first woman he found a few months latter. Both my mother and I thought it was a bit weird. I think he did it out of desperation and not wanting to live alone. I can understand that I guess. What disturbs me is that Art is up and leaving the US for a woman that is about the same age as his son. Lets not forget this isn't the first time his new wife is younger than he is. Also that his son might still be in a fragile state from a incident in the past.

This woman is also like his grand-daughter, in terms of the age difference! Ramona was 47 when she died, I believe. 13 year difference, OK, not that really big of a deal. But 35-40 years? Look, I'm 24 years old. The thought of marrying a 60-year old woman is disgusting and revolting to me. What kind of real relationship can you have???

I consider that thought grossly less-than-intelligent.

Why? Please explain yourself. How would you like to have grand parents for parents - or not finish high school before a parent dies on you - because of their selfishness? Look, there is a reason why as people age, it becomes more difficult - and sometimes dangerous - to have children.

If you want children, why not adopt someone instead? It would be more fair to the child. Don't ruin someone else's life.

"I've never understood why so many military men don't marry American women."

You might not agree with them, but there are several reasons.

"There are plenty of sweet American women who would love their husbands and be loyal to them and not be marrying them for money or U.S. citizenship."

Yeah, but they're not all near US Military bases overseas, where a lot of servicemen are. And stateside it's the same way. Maybe you should set up some kind of national bridal registry for the armed forces :P

Look, is it any surprise why these guys marry foreign women? As long as there are countries poorer than the US where we have forces, there are going to be smart, pretty girls that know those guys are their ticket to a better life. The good ones will put aside thoughts of love and marry Americans for a better life. The bad ones will simply marry Americans long enough to get citizenship. A previous poster was right...in Olangapo City, the Bar Girls (hookers, basically) threw themselves at every sailor and marine that walked through the gates, especially focusing on young green boys, lonely and far from home, and older single servicemen, who were perhaps getting lonely. That's where your disasters happened. The smart older guys I knew found their wives outside of those centers that catered to the Navy. They'd get out and travel the PI, into the villages and smaller cities. One guy I knew married a teacher from PI, for instance. She was young and pretty, and educated in a Filipino college. Those are the ones that tended to last.

And why not more American women stateside? Because your typical sailor is only exposed to the worst examples of American women at enlisted clubs and off-base: your typical vain American party girl that went to the base looking for Tom Cruise, but will settle for getting drunk and laid with the good looking guys. So to a lot of military personal, there's slim pickins' at home from their point of view.

This isn't new. Think of all of the servicemen from WW II and the decade after that brought home pretty British, German, and Italian wives. In this area, I know a lot of vets with German wives in particular, all picked up from postwar Germany recovering from disaster. Plenty of guys from Vietnam brought home women from southeast asia. When my father was in the USAF in the early 70's and I was a small child, I remember a neighbor of ours near base that was from Cambodia. She married a younger airman to get to America. My mom asked once how she felt about him, and she confided that she didn't love him, but that he was good to her, and so she'd be a good wife to him. That just seemed pretty typical of the foreign wives my family was familiar with, and my impressions were reinforced when I went into the Navy myself.

It's just that I consider marriage a very serious thing. Once you do it, it can't be undone. You can cleanly separate from a friend, but not a wife/husband.

A person at work dated her now-husband for about three weeks before marriage, and about 15 years later, they are still happily married. She says they as soon as they met, it was as though they had known each other forever. I can't say I have any idea what that is like. But she does agree, she got lucky. That is not the norm, to have a long-lasting marriage from such a short courtship.

I don't mean to nitpick, but the human writer of that passage, also wrote that it was his own personal opinion, that it is best to not be married, unless you can't help yourself (then he thought it best to be married). But certainly God intends people to be married (just read the account of Adam and Eve), yet I don't think after the genetic decay that has occurred everyone ought to be married....

Well if God didn't want women of that age to bear children then they couldn't. Or if that doesn't fit your view of the world then natural selection would negate to ability the breed.

Things are as they should be. Your attitude will change I'm sure as you age, as well your wisdom.

Uh...I'm not an expert in such things - but I believe 40 and beyond, most women cannot bear children. At least not without drugs and surgery and such things.

Things are as they should be. Your attitude will change I'm sure as you age, as well your wisdom.

Yes it is - no offense, but my attitude is moving away from your viewpoint. I am a sensitive person and an ethical person in my entire life. For instance, I do not willingly purchase Chinese products. Nor will I invest in companies that conflict with my views (i.e., I won't buy stock in tabacco, alcohol, pornography, gambling, etc., producing companies, no matter what the profit potential is). I will not shop at Wal-Mart. Nor will I buy gas at Citgo. I continue to use Google, but not without a pained conscience.

I will not please myself at others' expense. Old people having children sickens me. Many of whom know they will be dead before their children reach physical maturity.

But I'm sure none of this will make any sense to you. I guess we just have to agree to disagree....

For 15 years I don't think Art and Ramona even left each other's side for a day. They seemed to be soulmates; it was lovely and romantic. It just feels to me like he replaced Ramona too fast and too sloppily.

I certainly wish him well and hope he stays in radio. But just as I have opinions on political events, I have opinions about other items in the news. That's my "problem."

In one dimension I see where you are coming from yet I don't understand it, but men are some how different...

If they remein single they seem to deteriate but if they move on they awaken again!

As a female I wish I could have understood how to move on after my husband died not really looking for a companion but doing those things never women seem to get too!

Had I been younger or in my early 50's I might have thought different about another life mate!
