Leaking Earth could run dry

Researchers from the Tokyo Institute of Technology have calculated that about 1.12 billion tonnes of water leaks into the Earth each year. Although a lot of water also moves in the other direction, not enough comes to the surface to balance what is lost. Eventually, lead researcher Shigenori Maruyama and his colleagues believe, all of it will disappear... His figures, which he describes as conservative, suggest the leakage has caused sea levels to drop by around 600 metres in the last 750 million years. This trend has been largely obscured in the geological record by shorter-term variations in sea levels.

Each day a fair amount of ice falls into the atmosphere from outer space. I have been told that house sized chunks are not uncommon. I wonder if that's enough to offset this supposed loss. Also, eventually the water has to hit a molten core. If the surface is porous enough for liquid water to seep in, it stands to reason that it is porous enough to allow water vapor to leak out where it can condense and fall as rain.

"Blam, do you happen to have that glacial period flood map handy?" Sorry, I lost it a few months ago when I took my computer to the shop for a complete 'tune-up.' (I just told them to make it work right again)

BTW, it's linked in some of the older threads. I'll try to recapture it again if it turns up.

If that doesn't get us first, something else will, be it the atmosphere leaking away into space, the core solidifying (and stopping the magnetic field), or some stray hunk of space dust pulverizing us. The Earth is the proverbial "all the eggs in one basket".

Very Tom Morello like tagline. I'm sure he is a big supporter of the Islamic rage.

Interesting. I had to google the name Tom Morello, because (evidently) I'm so unhip my buns are about to fall off, and I didn't recognize it. I had heard of RATM, and that may have subconsciously influenced my tagline.
After looking at the Wikipedia entry for Morello, you are prolly very correct about his likely support of islamic rage.
