Leaking Earth could run dry
BBC ^ | Wednesday, September 8, 1999

Researchers from the Tokyo Institute of Technology have calculated that about 1.12 billion tonnes of water leaks into the Earth each year. Although a lot of water also moves in the other direction, not enough comes to the surface to balance what is lost. Eventually, lead researcher Shigenori Maruyama and his colleagues believe, all of it will disappear... His figures, which he describes as conservative, suggest the leakage has caused sea levels to drop by around 600 metres in the last 750 million years. This trend has been largely obscured in the geological record by shorter-term variations in sea levels.

:'D

So true. It's common knowledge that Nazi UFOs have been sighted in Antarctica since the very first (mid 1950s) year-round stations there.

Of course, it's also well known that Marconi, the guy who stole the invention of radio from Nicola Tesla, anticipated the Nazi discoveries, and moved his entire flying saucer operation and workshop to Mars nearly 90 years ago.

If we're leaking, which causes the ocean levels to drop, and the ice caps are melting, which causes the ocean levels to rise, which one should I be most concerned about?

we're a ship all filled with men,
so batten down the ladie's room,
there's no one here but men!

Nothin'. Ocean levels haven't risen since 1850, which is when the "Little Ice Age" finally got over with, whereas during the Medieval Warming period which preceded it, ocean levels are known to have been a couple of meters higher.

So should we line the ocean bottoms with plastic?

Yep the "Deep hot biosphere" explanation always made more sense to me than the "fossilized plant material" explanation did. At least as far as Oil goes.

I would like to see some figures on just how much dry land that would have left before I buy in.

I think this is what happened to mars- a huge asteroid hit, hence the relatively uniform color and rocks strewn about, and then the atmosphere just absorbed away

I believe there was life there and the FACE at cydonia is real. There are some infra-red images taken in that area that show sub-surface geometric patterns- indicating streets etc...

so call me nuts- at least I am the happy kind!

Sounds like a good way to offset the "rising" ocean levels due to global warming. /takes moonbat ears off.

I did not even realize that I was even wearing my moonbat ears ... and that was my reaction exactly ... LOL! One moonbat theory offsetting another ... what more could the world ask for?!

The sinking sea levels from the leaky earth should nicely balance off the increasing sea levels from global warming. Problem solved.

Sometimes I wish every computer on the planet would permanently crash, just to see a hundred million researchers have to scramble to find a real job.

(Special message to Dustbunny.)

"the researchers concluded that more water probably exists deep within the Earth than is present on Earth's surface -- as much as five times more... "

Could this possibly mean that some water remains on (in) Venus?

Once we erect our Terraforming parasol shielding Venus, and let it cool off to a reasonable degree, we might be able to resuscitate an ocean or two.

Don't buy the real estate yet. Although you could put some of it in trust for your gggggggrandchildren.
