An Auckland priest has failed in his bid to bring blasphemy charges against CanWest, but the fight is not over yet.
Father Denzil Meuli complained to police over the Bloody Mary South Park episode, screened on TV channel C4.
The episode caused outrage in the Catholic Church, after it showed the Pope and a menstruating statue of the Virgin Mary.
But the Solicitor-General has said no to taking a criminal prosecution against the broadcaster.
Father Meuli is taking the rejection well and says there are a couple of other initiatives he is looking at pursuing.
But he says apart from praying there will be no further action until he has had a chance to ponder the options.
Father Meuli says he could take a civil case against CanWest, but that would take a lot of consideration.
He says he has received wide support for his stand against the programme.

Note to Father Meuli.
Condemn the episode and it's creators but also take a lesson from Christ, forgive and pray for their souls...

I'm sure there's something dear to you that you wouldn't be able to take a joke about. It's human nature.

I guess when your wrapped in the concept of self before all, a philosophy of selflessness is the greatest threat. HuH? "What awaits each person in heaven is eternal bliss, divine rest, and ten thousand dollars cash." - Eric Cartman

I'll take your word for it since I haven't seen the episode.
Thanks for not blowing up at me....I think you know what I'm saying though. I'll reserve my judgement for the ones who have seen it and know the full spectrum. I appreciate your input! :)

....take a lesson from Christ, forgive and pray for their souls...Huh? I don't recall Christ being forgiving, when deliberate insult was offered to God, simply to make an easy buck. The Temple money-changers come to mind.

Paul wrote in Eph 4:31-32 "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ, God forgave you."

(Because it looks pretty lame, in print.) That's the thing about humour, context is everything - not a funny line or someone getting hit in the groin with a football.
For those in Rio Linda, the claim of Christianity as "a philosphy of selflessness" kinda loses the edge when you are also expecting eternal bliss, divine rest.
Even Eric Cartman, the one character on South Park who is truely "wrapped in the concept of self before all", can see that - and he wants his share.

A few people at least see South Park for the vileness that it is.

It takes a certain amount of higher intelligence to understand what each episode is about. Those that do not posses it, think it merely about fart jokes. It explains why so many did not get at all what the Bloody Mary episode was all about.

Outrage over a cartoon satire about idolatry? I can't even begin to imagine the backlash if South Park had brought up sola scriptura.

Apparently, they take their statues pretty seriously.

Cowards prefer to target those who won't fight back. Yeah, maybe someday they'll have the nerve to do a show attacking Scientologists... er, maybe someday they'll have the nerve to do a show attacking Islamofascists... er, let me think of a good example and get back to you....
