An Auckland priest has failed in his bid to bring blasphemy charges against CanWest, but the fight is not over yet.
Father Denzil Meuli complained to police over the Bloody Mary South Park episode, screened on TV channel C4.
The episode caused outrage in the Catholic Church, after it showed the Pope and a menstruating statue of the Virgin Mary.
But the Solicitor-General has said no to taking a criminal prosecution against the broadcaster.
Father Meuli is taking the rejection well and says there are a couple of other initiatives he is looking at pursuing.
But he says apart from praying there will be no further action until he has had a chance to ponder the options.
Father Meuli says he could take a civil case against CanWest, but that would take a lot of consideration.
He says he has received wide support for his stand against the programme.

It's simple television economics Kyle. All it takes to kill a show forever is to get an episode pulled. If we convince to network to pull this episode for the sake of muslims, then the Catholics can demand a show they don't like pulled ..... Cartman, South Park, Episode - "Cartoon Wars".

Differences between Islam and Christianity:
Cartoon of Mohammed - worldwide rioting, burning, killing, threats to destroy entire countries.
Really offensive cartoon of Virgin Mary - civil action possible...apart from praying there will be no further action until he has had a chance to ponder the options.

Guy is suffering from the "don't say nothin' 'bout the brother" syndrome.
In a world where context is all, this attitude of his will eventually get him into a lot of trouble.

(sarcasm) Yea, when the Family Guy episode "When You Wish Upon a Weinstein" was pulled, it killed the show forever.
NOT!!
But then, I am more a Futurama, Megas XLR fan.

Sometimes there seems to be more "outrage" over this episode of South Park among some Catholics, than there was over Priests raping boys over decades and the catholic churc doing all that it could to hide it.

i don't understand why Catholics are so sensitive about Mary. Jesus is who they should be defending

South Park did a child molesting priests episode and They were mighty quiet about it.

God speed, Father Meuli! Praying that your campaign is successful.
Libertarians like Parker and Stone save their greatest viciousness for Christians. I guess when your wrapped in the concept of self before all, a philosophy of selflessness is the greatest threat.

Can't argue with that! Gay priests? Just sweep it under the rug, no big deal. Menstruating Mary? How dare you!
BTW St. Paul, Mary, Pope JP, etc, all had bowel movements and snotty noses too, just like the rest of us.....so sue me! :P

You clearly don't know what you're talking about. Are you aware that virtually everyone on South Park attends church on a regular basis? (Aside from the Jewish family) Incredibly viscious of them isn't it?
