Not if they can't control the stupid things.
The pro-pit bull people will probably argue that they should be allowed to have lions and tigers, too, and make it a Libertarian Freedom of Ownership crusade.

yes, but your responsible deeply if it does something bad.

Pit bulls are bred to bite an fight. It's called instinct. Can you take the instinct out of a dog? Sure you can on the same day you take the swim out of a fish. Pit bull owners can wish all they want but the instinct to bite and fight is a part of each and every one of their dogs.

Well put. But petulant pit bull owners just don't want to hear it, it's what they feeeeeel that's important.

Sorry folks, it's just common sense.
The only problem with violent pit bulls is their owners. Don't blame the animals.

Doesn't matter the breed. A dog's behavior is a product of the owner's behavior. Banning one particular breed just doesn't stop dog bites or attacks.

yes, but your responsible deeply if it does something bad.And you are mauled deeply if the person that owned it let it maul you.
Seems like a fair trade. One person gets their face ripped off and the owner gets to be, horror of horrors, responsible.
A better idea would be, if a pit bull does something bad the owner has to have their ear, nose and part of their cheek surgically removed.

Only SOME pit bulls are bred to be violent. Most can be excellent companion pets.

life imprisonment and anal rapes daily...I would say that's bad.
To: BJungNan
And would this apply to auto accidents? Should we start amputating 16 yr old for recklessness? Or should we blame and just ban the big SUV?

Is there some special Genome project which can exclude generations of selection for fighting and violence? Got any information about such a program?

I've said this before, and I will say it again.
It is not the dogs.
It is the sick, twisted psychotics who get some kind of self esteem enhancement out of making these dogs aggressive attack animals. They are pussies themselves, but think if they have a mean
I have known plenty of nice pit bulls. I have never owned one, but I hate people who make them mean.

There are just as many generations of pit bulls bred for fighting as there are pit bulls that are excellent pets.
They are an extremely smart breed.
Do you not believe in man's dominion over animals?

Having been the owner of a Pit Bull/Doberman mix till we had to have her put down because of illness, I can honestly say I've never met a more lovable, gentler sweetie or more faithful friend in my life. We still miss her after 5 years.
I would be more afraid of my constant companion a little mini-Dachshund than I would be of 'Meeka'.

Do you suffer from cynophobia?
To: RushCrush
They are an extremely smart breed. People do not place enough importance on genetics. Bred to hunt birds, fine. Bred to kill other dogs, not fine.
Imagine spending the next several generations teaching your children to kill other people. At some point, they could accomplish it without blinking an eye.
Failure to see how this plays out on the bigger world-stage dims our ability to see what's going on around us.
Good people are 'bred' no less than bad people are 'bred'. 'Breeding' has consequences.
