I was hoping someone could answer a couple of questions I have on how to get rid of beaver out of a lake. I live in Indiana now but grew up in Michigan my whole life. Up there if you even look crosseyed at one the DNR will arrest you on the spot, so I was surprised when I called them here to get permission to live trap the d@mn things the officer just laughed and suggested I use dynamite on their home. He told me they were endangered once but since they brought them back our county has classified them as a nuisance. He told me if they were a problem just trap them or shoot them. The problem is they come out mostly at night, and the spillway the little b@stard keeps daming up is about 300 yards away from my back porch, and since they haven't started building a den yet I don't know where they sleep. I have to clean the stupid spillway up at least 3 times a week now, and I am getting pretty upset. If someone has some ideas not involving high explosives I sure would appreciate it.
Thats a great song.
Flowers may do the trick
The new home owners complained about the beavers and thus the beavers were killed off.
Now the homes surround two very wide/deep holes in ground.
Do you own a dog?
Is it possible they could help?
Order: Rodentia
Order Description:Rodents
Family: Castoridae
Family Description: Beavers
LOL - you could have said Castoridae but it wouldn't have been nearly so much fun!
Have a great weekend and good luck with those pesky Castoridae!
In that case, I'm posting this, because when I saw it in the paper this morning, I knew I'd have to post it somewhere.
Use a wench and a large tree to pull the dam apart and destroy their home. They will rebuild oce before moving.
My brother bought a havahart trap and caught them. I don't know what he used for bait but was very successful.
He wouldn't tell me where he released them but he kept a chain and cinder block on the end of his dock.
My sister is a master gardener and they have a beautiful lakeside property. They woke one morning and a dog wood was gone and a Bradford pear was nearly ringed.
brother=brother in law...... no hill billy jokes please.
I'm no trapper, but every hunting club around here has a few fur trappers in it. I'd ask some of the local hunters around your area if they trap or know any trappers.
I take issue with the manliness of anybody who sends his wench to take care of a beaver problem.
I don't care who you are....THAT'S FUNNY!
The very best way we've found is to pour water down their holes. Trouble is, they're pretty hard to catch and hold.
(did I just say that out loud?)
Introduce an alligator to your lake, give him 2 months to eat all the beaver then call DNR and complain about the gator. :=)
Good one! An old one but a good one. First time I heard that expression you were not even a twinkle in your father's eye.
