Galactica Wins Peabody

SCI FI Channel's original series Battlestar Galactica has been honored with the prestigious Peabody Award, which recognizes distinguished achievement in electronic media. It is the first Peabody Award for the network.

The Peabody Board is a 16-member group, comprised of television critics, broadcast and cable industry executives and experts in culture and the arts, that judges the entries. Selection is made by the board following review by special screening committees of UGA faculty, students and staff.

"As is the case every year, submissions for consideration by the Peabody Board provide insight into the astonishing array of electronic media productions" said Horace Newcomb, Director of the Peabody Awards. "These are the works self-selected by creators and producers as their very best work from the previous calendar year. This year's Peabody Award recipients stand as hallmarks of excellence in news, documentary, comedy, drama, education and public service."

The Peabody Awards, the oldest honor in electronic media, do not recognize categories nor is there a set number of awards given each year.

Now if only SciFi can show some respect for their most watched series by putting it on at a decent hour instead of 2:00AM...

Hope it doesn't go the way of other series, and we have to start waiting 21 months, like other cable series, for new episodes...gonna be a long wait until October.

They definitely deserve it. I don't care for TV much but I catch Galactica whenever I can.

In May its back at a more reasonable time.

I think they're waiting for October because they have to find a show to pair it with. If Dr. Who takes off, that is what I bet they go with.

What great news! BSG deserves the recognition. I don't think I have ever liked a television show as much as I like BSG. Intelligent, well thought out, engaging plot that is supported by great acting. As if that weren't enough, hot chicks abound!

24 is my one true "can't miss an episode" show, with BSG right behind it. Nothing else comes close.

Star Trek: TNG also won a Peabody, if I recall correctly.

I believe Star Trek overall has won a few, but the article is saying this is the first Peabody for the Sci-Fi Channel.

I'm not a huge SciFi guy so I didn't even bother watching the show.

Now if they could do a BSG and Firefly night... ;)

They did over last summer:
(EST - When Indiana still had it)

6pm Firefly
7pm Stargate
8pm Stargate Atlantis
9pm Battlestar Galactica

I was geeked out for 4 hours each Friday and loved it.
