Just off phone with old CBS friends in NY. Would have posted this earlier, but they just got in after drinking their sorrows (somewhat) away on the pending Couric announcement.
Points in general agreement:
Ratings will go up for a few days, perhaps even weeks. Edsel showrooms were full for the first month after it was introduced.
The gradual sink will begin in the Summer news doldrums.
They will not be very apparent in the May or July ratings books, but by the all important November book, it will be WAY down.
Will she make it past the February book? 50/50.
Next year this time? No way.
Inside opinions: She cannot handle any crisis, so any big problems will only make her slide worse. We may see a real hissy fit.
Even if she could handle a crisis, who would turn to her in a crisis if Charlie Gibson was on ABC or someone on FNC?
Finally, she is such a bitch, none of the "little people" will help her, so it will be a painful slide. They would fall on their swords for Chronkite or Scheiffer, but this bimbo, no way.
Pardon the typos. I have been "celebrating" too.
LOL ... will be interesting to watch.
She's peobably getting a 5 year 100 Mil contract so if the solo gig flops she can still go to 60 minutes :)
Don't think that she will last 6 months.
It all depends on how many married assignment editors she blows at the office in the middle of the night.
Regards,
TS
How interesting. I would have loved to be there listening to them as they were drinking away their sorrows. CBS is just plain stupid. And Meredith Viera to replace Katie at NBC? Like they are the only 2 females to fill these spots. I know of so many women, and even more males, to replace these bimbos.
Cheers!
ping!
"Who cares?"
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Seems like those anchor jobs are good for people who have coveted and respected them for their entire lives - someone like Katie Couric will get tired of it. She always had it easy in her career IMO
Puh-leeze! I wish the media would stop talking about this so called "historic" event. It is only historic in its insignificance.
I am truly amazed at CBS management. After the Dan Rather fiasco, they went out of their way to try to hire this far left person. To me, it shows they view this more like an episode of "survivor" to dumb down the news as opposed to a serious news operation. As if the MSM didn't have enough problems at this point. Truly idiotic.
CBS, looking for a little credibility after the departure of the Dan Rather debacle, go and get themselves little "Baghdad" Katie of "hopefully Saddam escaped to Syria before the bombs fell" fame!
I give her 'til Christmas. CBS Evening News will have ratings equal to 35 year old PBS reruns of Mister Rogers Neighborhood!
Yup. She's the 1.505th female anchor, with others doing it better on Fox and CNN. The joke is going to be CBS wanted someone a little better looking than Bob Schieffer.
Good point.
I hear they are saying that she (Couric) is returning to her hard news roots. (Gag)
;-)
Megyn Kendall (FoxNews) is great. She's very smart, is a great interrogator, wastes no time getting to the news matter, and is very attractive. She's the best.
During her "hard news" days, wasn't she the one that KRTV in International Falls,MN sent out to cover the smowstorms?
"Yes,Chuck,it's snowing pretty heavily right now,and that wind you hear...."

I agree. But, would you want to jump ship from FNC to NBC?
