Hank Williams Jr. surrenders to police

MEMPHIS, April 4 (UPI) -- Country music star Hank Williams Jr. Tuesday surrendered to police on charges he allegedly assaulted a Memphis waitress.

Williams, 56, cut short a hunting trip after learning a warrant and an all-points-bulletin had been issued for him, E! Online reported.

With his attorney in tow, he reported to Shelby County Sheriff's deputies and was booked on a charge of assault with intent to commit bodily harm.

Holly Hornbeak, a 19-year-old Memphis hotel bar waitress, claimed Williams cursed at her, asked to kiss her, then lifted her up in a choke hold when she refused just after midnight on March 18.

Williams' publicist, Kirt Webster, released a statement saying his client was a victim of greed and extortion would be proven innocent of the assault charge.

Webster said Hornbeak's attorney demanded "an outlandish amount of money" to settle out of court and when Williams refused, threatened to file suit against the singer.

I'm happy I'm a Jr., too. If only because I'm not dead, either.

Junior can't sing for shiite, true, but he does OK with what he's got. (On Star Search or American Idol, he'd get dumped, fer shore!) Did you know that he actually recorded post-mortem duets with his father as a teenager sometime in the 1960s, on MGM Records, long before Natalie Cole did her necrophilia number with Nat King?

All his rowdy friends may have settled down but it appears that Hank Jr. is still partying hard.

BTW, his son "Hank III" is starting to make some waves in the country music world. He just released "Straight to Hell" and it sounds pretty good.

But the best "alternative" country music today is being put out by Junior Brown and Neko Case.

Doesn't he know that to get away with assault you have assault a police officer in D.C. and cry racial profiling?

Didn't know that...but interesting.

Before the Monday Night Football thing, I had a very negative impression of him (not being a country fan, the sunglasses, whatever).

Then he started the MNF songs before the game, and I found myself looking forward to seeing him.

Later, I learned that he had some sort of disfiguring accident, and that is why he wears the sunglasses.

Now, seeing the picture without the shades, I think he doesn't look that bad and think he should drop the shades and some of the attitude and just be a guitar playing country dude. I'd have a little more respect for him.

I think this because of one of my co-workers who got Bell's Palsy six months ago. One side of his face has no feeling or movement. He missed one day of work for a doctor's appointment, tnen came in as normal ever since, handling the diversity like a champ. I have a lot of respect for the way he's handled his affliction. I wish Hank Jr. would have done the same.

But then, I'm a guy, what do I know?

I AM female and I wouldn't want him to kiss me, either. Maybe he had too much to drink, and, if so, she should have just slapped him and let it go at that.

Put some ice on it and it'll be okay. What goes for the president should go for celebrities. After all, we are given celebrities' take on foreign policy time and time again.

They are practically advisors.

Yeah!! Great comment. But, that was Jimmie Rodgers. I couldn't think of a good Hank Williams song quote either, though.
