I am considering adopting this Min Pin. He was born on 01/05/06. He was a puppymill rescue (pup was being sold at a Puppy Auction and the rescue group bought him so he would not be sold to another puppymill for breeding.)
He came with papers (which I don't really care about the papers) But he looks like he is mixed. His legs seem to be shorter than normal, but that might because he is so young. What do you other MinPin owners think?
The reason I ask is because they will be charging me "pure breed" price on him. The price is reasonable but I don't want a short legged MinPin. He is as cute as button and his leg height really does not matter to me, but it does to my husband.
This pup has already been neutered and I have a female spayed MinPin mix (she is 90% MinPin, but I got her when she was 5 months old and her legs never looked this short). My female is only 10 pounds and is 2 years old now.
Also... I know all about MinPin's, I just have not seen many baby MinPin's before and I have no idea if this one looks normal for a pure breed.

That's not a baby Cujo - That's Kitty.
The black & tan one in the front of the pic (with her head on the red one's butt) - - that is a baby Cujo (or as we call her Peanut Head). She walks around with her mouth open, ready to bite.

The dogs are getting used to Gunner. He came over today to drop some stuff off and they only BARKED at him for just a minute.

Just a little bite but he didn't stay long.

Here is a copy of what I posted on Texas board earlier today. I would have got back to all of you earlier, but we had a storm blow through here in Randolph County IL and we were without power for many hours. (our area got hit with 2 small tornadoes early this evening, but we have no damage on our property. Tornado touch downs are common in this area this time of year.)
Thanks everyone for your comments, concerns, and help. Squantos I will pass the phone number on to my sister.
I sure hope he heals ok so that he can finish basic training and continue on with his military training and career. He had only been there 1 week when this happened.
Here is what I posted on the Texas board earlier today...
I just got off the phone with my sister in South Carolina. (what I learned earlier was through my mother who is in St. Louis and I was having problems reaching my sister by phone.)
He is in the medical ward due to needing daily therapy. He is expected to heal and then he will continue on with is basic training after 30 days of therapy. He stretched the muscle and tendons in his shoulder.
They have him on "sleep-rest" orders currently.
One recruit from the accident is in a coma, the van my nephew was in rolled into a ditch. The guy in the coma was sitting in front of my nephew and this guy was thrown out a side window of the van and his head hit the other van's front in. So it must have not been a straight head on collision.
I now learned that an outside company is contracted on base to transport the recruits around the base. The drivers of the 2 vans (both from the same company) are not military.
They would not allow her to see him on base since he is technically still in basic training even if she went to Texas. Normally you have to go through the Red Cross to contact a recruit who is in basic training. He is only allowed one 15 minute call weekly. He is also left handed and his left shoulder is the one that is dislocated so he cannot write at this time. It will be next Saturday before she hears from him again by phone.
Also all 32 recruits went to the hospital, but she does not know how many others from the accident are still in the hospital.
My guess is they did not contact my sister because my nephews injuries were not life threatening.

He has large paws and a large jaw, but looks like a pure breed to me.
I have a nine year old female Min Pin that is still as active as a pup. They're very cute little buggers.

Earlier today I was looking a ton of MinPin pictures at the IMPS website. I noticed on this pup that his black mask does not go very far under his eyes. He has more rust on his face that most black and rust MinPins. He was probably the last pup from the litter due to his unusual markings and stocky built. This is probably why the original breeder decided to sell him at a puppymill auction. The rescue shelter bought him at the puppymill auction so he would not be used as a breeder. He definitely will not be a Micro MinPin.
My biggest concern when I saw the first pictures is that he was mixed with a black & rust doxie because his legs appeared to be short in those pictures.
Even though he is a MinPin he has a doberman look to his face.
The price they are charging me probably just covers what they paid for him at auction, his shots and neutering. Everything has already been done, including his rabies shot.
The lady who handles all the adoption apps leaves for vacation on Monday and she will not be back until the 11th. She does not allow the caretakers to hand out the dogs while she is gone so I have to wait until she returns from vacation.
I have always been attracted to MinPin's, but I never knew just how entertaining they can be until I adopted my other MinPin a little over a year ago. They are full of energy, but when they finally fall asleep, they sure can sleep and most of the time they don't make a move when they are sleeping. They are great bed warmers in the winter time since they like to be under the covers. Once my female gets under the covers she is out like a light and will hardly move all night, sometimes she refuses to get up when we get up.
My current MinPin gets cold easy. So she does wear coats, sweaters, or t-shirts most of the time until it hits about 65F. She gets mad when we remove her clothing and tries to dive back into them when we remove them. I just can't stand to she her shiver.
She hates the vacuum cleaner and we joke how no one will ever get out of our house with the vacuum cleaner. She does bark when anyone comes to the door that does not live here. She warms up quickly though to people who do not act frightened by her, then she becomes a lap magnet to who ever is willing to let her sit on their lap.
I need to stop rattling on... but I will say the breed is not for everyone. They are like having a 3 year old around all the time. She is not destructive, but she is at your heels or on your lap every chance she gets. They want attention constantly and I understand they never grow out of this. They are usually devoted to one person in the household, but will be loving and social to other people in the household. My female is devoted to my husband. We will have to see if this new male pup picks me or my husband to be devote to. My female has been socialized with other dogs and cats (we have cats also) so she should accept this new pup, but I don't know if she will be willing to share my husbands lap in the evening with another MinPin. So the male pup will most likely become devoted to me.

That would be a good guess...... BTW there are a gazillion veteran volunteers in that hospital who will write his letter for him. After all it's to his Momma so how blushing personal can it be per se....:o)
They'll write it for him , they do it all the time for injured troops. Glad he's OK !
When she gets her next 15 minute call tell him to have someone write for him or use a E-mail in the hospital rec room.....

Good luck with your puppy! I don't know much about Miniature Pinchers, but he's adorable!
I've met the Eakers' Min Pins and, after yapping like they want to have me for dinner, they seem to like me well enough. Of course, I haven't been around them as much as humble has, at least not yet.
I've always had Shelties and Collies, and am now the proud owner of one Karankawa dog and a Sheltie puppy, so my limited doggie expertise wouldn't be very helpful to you.
Good luck!

Wow, it sounds like you're describing my female MinPin. It's amazing they haven't taken over the world if they're all as domineering and driven as my girl is. Unless, of course, sleeping in till noon would stop them.
I understand your concern about whether he's a pure breed or not, but I'm not sure what you can do other than ask the opinion of other MinPin owners. Regardless, he's a real good looking little guy and I'm sure you'll be happy with him.
Just one week to go and you'll have him. Hope it all goes well.
