Vanity ~ Miniature Pincher Owners - Question 4 You
me ^ | 6/30/06 | me

Posted on 03/30/2006 3:37:47 PM PST by stlnative

I am considering adopting this Min Pin. He was born on 01/05/06. He was a puppymill rescue (pup was being sold at a Puppy Auction and the rescue group bought him so he would not be sold to another puppymill for breeding.)

He came with papers (which I don't really care about the papers) But he looks like he is mixed. His legs seem to be shorter than normal, but that might because he is so young. What do you other MinPin owners think?

The reason I ask is because they will be charging me "pure breed" price on him. The price is reasonable but I don't want a short legged MinPin. He is as cute as button and his leg height really does not matter to me, but it does to my husband.

This pup has already been neutered and I have a female spayed MinPin mix (she is 90% MinPin, but I got her when she was 5 months old and her legs never looked this short). My female is only 10 pounds and is 2 years old now.

Also... I know all about MinPin's, I just have not seen many baby MinPin's before and I have no idea if this one looks normal for a pure breed.

First of all he is very cute!!!!

I have heard nothing but good things about this breed.

It is always wonderful to rescue a dog and good for you.

Check out this website regarding breed standards and you may also want to call a breeder. If he comes with papers then I would think they can charge for a pure bred.

Just wondering why you ask that question on FR instead of on a dog forum?

What a cutie!

You are right, the legs look really short. I'm no expert and I went back and forth on whether the dog is a mix or not. My guess is pure, but clearly not a show standard.

We have a 10-year-old red Min Pin and have just enjoyed the heck out of her. She was a mill dog that we rescued also.

He's cute, and I'm not that well versed in the breed, but his legs do look shorter than what I've seen. Then again, puppy mills don't really breed for correct breed type.
Also, some breeds have problems with dwarfism. I'm not sure about minpins tho.

My MinPin is almost 8 yrs old. I love him to pieces...he's the best little dog. MinPin's are known for their long legs as puppies...and long noses too. Then they grow into them, as you may have noticed with your female. Not sure about the cute little puppy you you show, his legs look just a little short, but I'm not expert. Your vet should know.

Min-Pin vary in height and weight even within the same litter.

We had two brothers out of the same litter, one a red and one a black and tan. The red weighs about 13 pounds and is very muscular. The black and tan never weighed more than 4 pounds fully grown.

I do know that they are the sweetest dogs in the world even though they are the Velociraptors of the canines.

Good luck!

That what I thought - the legs do look short from each angle.

Why I asked on FR is because of the dog lovers here and I know many Freeper own Min Pin's, I just don't recall who they all are.

I will be back later, I have to get dinner on the table!

Thanks everyone!

They are not related to Dobermans despite the appearance. But they're fearless little dogs who forget they're really small.

This link seems to be the most helpful.

It looks like they do have short looking legs and big paws at a young age.

http://www.puppydogweb.com/breeders/pic_images/minipin_hare3206.jpg (this one does not have the ears cropped and that is why the one I am interested in looks a little older)

http://www.puppydogweb.com/breeders/pic_images/minipin_inman3276.jpg (another one that looks like it has short legs)

I have email the rescue group that has him for more info on him, like his weight and how high he currently stands from the ground.

The problem is I have to drive 150 miles just to look at him (or adopt him). I would rather be 80% sure that he is full blooded before I drive that far. I will not be able to pick him up until after April 13th.

Also I am not sure if they will let me have him as they are still going over my adoption app, but the lady said she sees no problems with it so far.
