No, what Elliott is going to sing is looking like a Hathaway tune. No word on what he's picked yet though.

Now watch Katherine latch on to this song from Bocelli's album:

"Besame Mucho", in English "Kiss Me A Lot", was written by a girl who had never been kissed!

:)

Oh, OK. Whatever he picks, I know it will be great. I want him to be in the top three.

I don't believe that they are doing Bocelli rather he is going to work with them. Sort of like Barry (Wo)manilow, Kenny Rogers and Rod Stewart did.

The experience of working with a classical artist like that has to be amazing. Sort of like a young pithcer getting lessons from Roger Clemens, Greg Maddox or Jim Palmer.

Does he have a cd to push? Are the songs coming from that? I looked at Amore and only two songs are in English.

What do you think? Mostly slowsongs? Any rock tunes? Sometimes their list is 100's of songs available.

I guess it depends on if the contestants must choose from stuff Bocelli has recorded. If that's the case, most of it will be standards, not necessarily love ballads, but mostly.

"Besame, besame mucho--kiss me my darling and say that you'll always be mine." The ladies on this thread will just swoon!

Chuckle...especially if he does it with an appropriate Latin beat instead of trying to rock it up.

Believe me, Bocelli doesn't have to push his CD's. He has worldwide sales in the millions of units. The songs on "Amore" are from his latest tour. He performed these songs in Vegas to sold-out houses in November of 2004. PBS showed this concert last month.

You are right--only two are in English. So the songs can't be coming exclusively from that.

I think Bocelli is doing this because he genuinely wants to help young talent.

He was playing piano and singing in a piano bar when he was discovered by Pavarotti, who arranged for him to sing at a Pav. concert. The rest is history.

Bocelli has a wonderful personality, and I think the kids are going to have a marvelous time working with him.

Bocelli is one of a very few classical artists who have successfully crossed over to pop music.

I can't wait to see the show next Tuesday!

(Can you tell I am a huge Bocelli fan?)

Good analogy. The Idol kids are so fortunate to have come this far and to have worked with so many great musicians.

They are all winners.

Hmmm...interesting stats and analysis. To simplify it for myself, I just look at it this way:

Seasons 1 & 4, the winner was the obvious standout and never made it to the bottom. Throughout Season 1, the judges seemed to favor Tamyra. She was the early favorite to win and everyone was shocked when she was voted off "early." Once she was gone, Kelly was head and shoulders above the remaining contestants, and received tremendous praise from the judges. In Season 2, pretty much everyone expected Carrie to win. The judges favored her throughout.

Season 2 there were three obvious standouts, Clay, Ruben and Kim Locke. The judges favored Ruben.

Season 3, the three black divas kept splitting their vote until only Fantasia was left, then she sailed to the win with the judges praising her to the hilt the whole way. Simon especially never liked Diana, and kept ripping her because she was too young.

This year is unique in that there is no standout and, other than Kellie Pickler, the judges don't seem to have a strong favorite.

I just meant that the guests all seem to be promoting one of their/latest CD's.

I'm just trying to an idea of what the song options might be. Rock or county love songs allowed? It WILL make a difference. :)

I think the judges favored Bo last year. Simon didn't like country and Carrie did a lot of that, and when she did something different he cut down her appearance, calling her a stepford wife. It think it was during finals that he finally accepted her.

I think they realized that Reuben wasn't going to be the AI they had hoped for and so they pushed for Fantasia. If only they had pushed for Latoya or Jennifer. I liked both of them. Still don't know why they picked the screaming mimi over Latoya, who is pretty and talented. Neither of which can be said for Fantasia.

Thanks for the list. Not surprising given that it's from VH1, but the list is very heavily skewed toward more recent music.

6) Elliot
5) Paris

I think they will be the next two to go, barring some major fumble from the other singers. But I hope Paris goes before Elliot, because I think Elliot would benefit more from the continued exposure.

I agree, but after a week of 30'-40's, some of them just might want to move forward a bit and someone mentioned that Bocelli has crossed over into pop.

I really wish we knew if there were any limitations to their song choices. Outside of clearance, of course.

What he'll make of Pickle is beyond me since she's really a bad singer who needs to hide behind schlock fluff and...ahem..."feminine wiles" in order to sound decent.

But her wiles won't have any effect on Bocelli--all he'll hear is her awful singing and irritating voice :)
