If Chris wins, it'll be because he's a manly man, and a man's man, and a good family man to boot.

Whoever wins, it will be because the mostly pre-teen and early teenage girls who do the vast majority of the AI voting have taken a fancy to that person. You and I surely both remember what appeals to girls in that age group.

Saw some comments on another board that Chris might be singing "Night and Day". Could be a decent song for him.

Looking through the song list, I think "Let's Fall in Love"(about as youthful as there is in that song list) for Paris and "Blue Moon" for Katharine could be pretty good for them in addition to the songs I favored in the previous post. Hoping Katharine will pick something that will keep her out of her wailing/screeching range.

It should be fun tomorrow night.
I'll be sad to see any of them go. Each one has something special to offer.

Yep, gonna be interesting. I think Ace, who is probably most in danger of leaving, is probably going to do pretty well this week. A weak performance from Taylor, Chris, or Kellie probably isn't going to matter at this point, but Elliott, Katharine, and Paris better perform well this week--and should, given the song posibilities but ya never know. Ace is who I'd least mind leaving of those likely to get low vote counts, but I have a feeling the race is going to be very close this week.

American Idol Finalist Taylor Hicks Will Not Dye Grey Hair
http://www.nationalledger.com/artman/publish/article_27265032.shtml

By Cyndi James
Apr 17, 2006

In late March we reported that American Idol finalist Taylor Hicks was being encouraged to dye his trademark grey hair a bit darker. Many believed the prematurely grey crooner would have a better chance at becoming the next American Idol with a younger look.

His fans screamed "no!"

And now In Touch Weekly has learned that he will listen to his fans wishes. The weekly magazine will report in this week's edition (Friday release) that Idol’s silver fox will not dye his hair and will keep his traditional look.

***

The report details that fans were shocked when word spread that Taylor, 29, was considering doing a deal with a hair-color company like Clairol if they offered him a lot of money to dye his locks.

Fans begged him to turn down the cash on tvsquad.com’s Idol message board.

“I love his sexy gray hair,” said Idol-watcher Deborah. “Keep the gray — it’s who you are,” DJ Johnson pleaded. In the end, Taylor decided to keep it. “They are not dyeing my hair — no way!”

SONG SPOILERS SO FAR (Chris spoiler added)

Elliot Yamin - Night and Day. Have 99% confirmed that this is Eliot's song choice this week.

Kellie Pickler - Someone To Watch Over Me. Only about a 75% confirmation on this one. People who have been very accurate say this is the song so I trust them, but Kellie insiders will not confirm or deny.

Chris Daughtry - Night and Day. I actually nailed this pick last week :-). Chris insiders gave out clues last night that it is a Cole Porter song. Frank Sinatra hit, and covered by a rock band (U2). Other clue was it contains a line that will make the ladies swoon right before the big ending.
Second to last line of Night and Day - "Until you let me spend my life making love to you", followed by big "Night and Day, Day and Night" ending.
Confirmed this is the song through email with Chris' insider, so 99% confident. Also, he said Chris will be dressed as a Rat Packer tonight, and is going for the Torch singer Sinatra version. Could be the MOMENT.

Desperately trying to pin down Taylor's song, but no luck so far. Am hoping for "What a Wonderful World" or "You Send Me".

I'm getting a rush just looking at it :)

LOL!! Target had red peeps this year! They were a Target exclusive, I guess. They didn't look like they were moving very well. I'm going out on a limb and guessing it because no one wants to look like a vampire after eating a cute marshmallow chick or bunny. But it's just a hunch. ;-)

Let's get creative here... did anyone ever think that her father may have had another child w/someone and this is a half brother?

I still don't think it's right for Kellie's grandparents to stand in the way of having a relationship with her mother.

Otherwise how do we explain all the weepy, "metrosexual" guys around these days?

AI needs enough guest stars to advise the contestants?

Unseasonably warm--90 degrees!

Can you see my pouty face from there?? It was about 45 with rain going from a light mist to raging thunderstorms here. And stupid me wore high heeled sandals. What was I thinking?? I have to move.

Mobile Register has an article about Hicks having been spoofed on SNL.

'SNL' spoofs Taylor Hicks
http://www.al.com/tv/mobileregister/mbrantley.ssf?/base/entertainment/1145351707170180.xml&coll=3

Tuesday, April 18, 2006

You've made something on an impression on the popular culture when you're fodder for the "Saturday Night Live" spoof mill.

Alabama singer Taylor Hicks, a favorite contestant on Fox's "American Idol," was the subject of an amusing send-up this past weekend on "SNL." The live, late-night and long-running NBC comedy program both poked fun at and celebrated Hicks during a mock interview segment during which Tina Fey asked questions of Hicks, who was played with apparent enthusiasm by "SNL" regular Jason Sudeikis.

In Hicks guise, Sudeikis sported the gray hair over dark eyebrows so associated with the 29-year-old singer from Birmingham, who competes among seven finalists tonight on Fox's prime-time singing contest.

90 here today too :-) (sorry)

Looks like Idol may have a small publicity nightmare/storm brewing. Seems that all the contestants were having songs rejected this week -- word is Paris had to choose 5 times before getting a song cleared.

This week is a very specific week - only 55 songs to choose from off of Rod's 4 "standards" CD's. Yet, word is that Taylor, Kellie, Kat, Elliot and Paris all had to change songs.

I find it highly irritating that Idol could not get pre-approval for all 55 songs, or at least let the contestants know which songs were off-limits. Apparently Paris had only 24 hours to rehearse her final song choice.

If this is true, something tells me Idol producers will be doing some serious tap-dancing, CYA this next week.

Latest from mj's big blog:

I'm hearing that Elliott Yamin was originally going to perform "I'm In the Mood for Love", before he changed to "It Had to Be You". I have no information on why he switched. But I am hearing that several Idols are rehearsing tunes that aren't their original choices.

Apparently, some of these songs are not being cleared. Rumor has it that Paris Bennett finally had her 5th song cleared yesterday with less than 24 hours to prepare.

I don't really like Paris but that is patently unfair...

Talkin' about Taylor
What they're saying about 'Gray Charles'
Tuesday, April 18, 2006
MARY COLURSO
News staff writer

Birmingham's Taylor Hicks is keeping his cool, and his focus on Mother Music, as he competes on "American Idol."

Hicks, 29, is one of seven contestants left on the Fox TV reality series. Tonight, he'll perform a classic from the great American songbook under the guidance of Rod Stewart.

"I'm getting used to the camera and the set and all the many lights that are shining on you," Hicks said. "This is very intimidating, even for someone who's as seasoned as I am. But if it wasn't for the music, I wouldn't even be in this position. I know that I cannot let the music slip. I have to be on top of it."

Here's what others have been saying about Hicks, his vocal talent, his spazzy dancing and his prematurely gray hair:

Actress Mandy Moore, starring in "American Dreamz," a movie that lampoons "American Idol," gushed that she and boyfriend Zach Braff are "huge Taylor fans." Moore added, "He's such a soulful individual." From USA Today -- Alicia Keys, a Grammy-winning singer and songwriter, admitted that she occasionally watches "Idol" with her grandmother, who's hooked this season. "I like the guy with the gray hair," Keys said. "His little flow is hot." From a video clip on TMZ.com -- The Tyler Music Group in Nashville worked with Hicks on demo recordings in 2001, but failed to generate a deal with a major label.

However, executive producer Will Smith - no, not that Will Smith - offered props to Hicks. "He is a throwback to a better time when songs were the engine that powered this confusing industry," Smith said. From a press release for Hicks' indie debut, "In Your Time" Sam Gunderson, the guitarist in Hicks' Birmingham band, said his friend has the power to change viewers' perceptions of what an "American Idol" might be. "Taylor knows how to combine words and feelings with music," Gunderson said. "He's a showman. When you go to see Taylor Hicks, you go to see somebody get down. He will do what it takes."

From an interview with The Birmingham News -- Joni Hicks, grandmother of the Soul Patrolman, said seeing her grandson on television makes her very proud. "I think, there's my baby, who I think is so beautiful," she said. "There he is, with the whole world seeing him. I can actually feel my heart swelling." From an interview with The Birmingham News -- Melissa McGhee, a contestant who made the top 12 this season, had nothing but praise for Hicks. "I personally love him," McGhee said. "He's just him, and he does what he does awesomely and he's great."

From a teleconference with national media, including The Birmingham News -- Nigel Lythgoe, executive producer for "American Idol," evaluated Hicks' performance of "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and gave it a thumb's up. "Well, you know I love his energy," Lythgoe said. "I love him jumping around, even though he did miss the microphone when he tried to kick it over."

From TV Week -- Dean Jutilla, a spokesman for eBay, said sales of fan merchandise tend to mirror the popularity of contestants on "Idol." Using that formula, Hicks was a front-runner on April 12, Jutilla said. "Taylor's stock is really high now, but Katharine (McPhee) may have a really good performance and get more investors next week," he said. "You see the market fluctuate." Found this at a Taylor Hicks forum

There is some specualtion on a few of the boards that a number of first choice songs aren't being cleared and that a few of the contestants have had to make last minute changes.

If this is true, it seems a bit odd. First, they assign these ridiculous catagories then they limit the choices in those catagories???? They only had 55 songs to choose from in the first place this week. If this turns out to be true, it seems awfully suspect behavior on the part of the producers.
